For Berrios, yes.  For Alcantara no.

Are you looking at the right Alcantara?   Why do you like the 106 ERA+ pitcher with less control more than the 118 ERA+ pitcher with more control.

GB rate near 50%, FB that averages 97 MPH legit four pitch guy.  Sub .700 ops allowed in inter league for his career.

Hoping Strad’s referring to the Marlins’ Alcantara and his 3 1/3 years control

Would trading a couple of their best prospects for a Berrios or Alcantara be “gutting the farm”?

Basically I was saying yes it would be gutting the farm if it was for Berrrios and one year of control, but it wouldn’t be gutting the farm for a guy with 3 years of control.

Totally disagree.  The price they would pay for either would not even come close to “gutting the farm.”

Ok.  Regardless there is no reason to send valuable prospects for one year of a good but not great starting pitcher.  Spend more to get someone better for longer.

I love minor leaguers probably far more than most.

But the danger in that love affair is similar to the dog that loves to play fetch but will not give up the tennis ball for you to throw it.

Nobody wants to gut the farm.  But you should be willing to trade some quality prospects if you expect to get quality major leaguers.

I am baffled by the lack of enthusiasm for who Berrios is.  He is pretty damn good.

Paying the correct price for him would be a very good move for this team.

Next year matters.
