Well,

Ohtani and Canning will be in the rotation so the plan will be to build around them.

Resigning Options:

Bundy, Cobb

Inside Options:

Sandoval, Rodriguez and Detmers

Outside Options:

Scherzer, Lynn, Ray, Gray, Davies

Rays may listen on Glasnow

Nobody's answers will be conclusive because they'll be reactionary based on who's hot or struggling on a given day.

Thing is, the starters have mostly struggled, outside of Ohtani and Canning.

And even they have health ???

How does a team rebuild a farm into a 6th year, and its’ pitching is still like this?

How does an owner, knowing how weak pitching has been, NOT sign a single FA pitcher to more than a 1-2 years deal since Nibs going on  TEN years ago?

You can only use the “they wanted to pitch back East” excuse for so long.

Heaney.

I’ve been saying for the last 4 seasons that Heaney is at absolute best a number 4. However, the majority of this board has now convinced me otherwise! Heaney can be in the top half of a starting rotation on a competitive team! I mean, just look at the Angels! They good!

Halos went big time after Cole, but pitchers like Keuchel and Ryu could have been signed.

Well, in the five drafts from 2015 through 2019 Canning is the only pitcher the Angels selected in the first two rounds.

Don't know if it would have made a difference but we could have used a few of the other 9 picks on pitchers. Also, it doesn't feel like we are developing young pitchers in the minors. Maybe Rodriguez and Sandoval can change that perception. And we haven't developed many international pitchers and our FA signings have not  produced.

So it remains a work in progress.

Good point, seems that few international pitchers have been brought in.

The emphasis going back a decade seems to be four fold with this franchise.

1 - Sign/acquire mainly power hitters.

2 - Sign mainly athletic int’l prospects.

3 - Draft mainly toolsy guys in the early rounds.

4 - Fill in with pitching in the later rounds of the draft, or acquire medium pitching via trade.

Doesn’t seem to be a valid formula at all for having solid pitching?

Ohtani/Canning/Detmers should be good in the rotation next year. Possibly C-Rod or Sandoval but i'm doubtful. Maddon is taking a pretty dip shit approach with those guys.

Would love Scherzer on a 2 or 3 year deal. The guy clearly still has it. Could possibly get him somewhere in the neighborhood of a low to mid 20's AAV.

Then bring in one of Thor or Rodon. Then focus all efforts on relievers. We would be looking good, but Arte will have to pony up.

How does Tampa compete year after year on low budget. Enough with FA pitcher. Trade for some young starters who will be around 5 nor 6 years.

The only high value assets we have to trade are Rodriguez, Detmers, Canning, Marsh, and Adell. I guess Jordyn Adams too.

Marsh and Adell are going to be our two corner outfielders in the extremely near future. So you can't trade them or the outfield is dog shit. You don't want to trade Rodriguez/Detmers/Canning since, you know, we're needing pitching. That leaves Adams as our only high-value guy left, and he is not at peak value, not even close.

A trade isn't really feasible right now.

Mike Trout your top asset before he becomes too old. Get young pitching use money saved from his contract and Pujols to fill other needs

Two years with 3.60 ERA or less

Four innings last night 1 hit 0 runs.  Yet Barria is not an option.

And by drafting good ones to start with.

They make good trades. Scott Kazmir in 04, Matt Garza in 2007, flip Garza for Chris Archer in 2011 flip Archer for Glasnow and last off season Snell for top pitching prospect from San Diego. As soon as a pitcher becomes too expensive they flip them. Glasnow will be next.
