Trout plays umpire too much with two strikes. yes, he can recognize a ball that is inches outside and know it's not a strike but he can't leave it for the umpire to see it. He has to spoil those with two strikes, swat them away, make the Boston dugout duck for cover. That ball was too close to a hitable pitch for him to assume the umpire sn't going to call it a strike. And that is one of the reasons why he is in a slump.

Trout needs to stop umpiring and be a hitter.

Or, you know, the umpire could call pitches 6-7 inches off the plate a ball...like they're supposed to.

Trout is watching way too many pitches cross the plate.
