I still don’t know why I need it.  I am in good health, not old yet, and despite never getting a flu shot I have had no issues with the flu.

The math says I am already in the lowest risk category.

So for me personally I don’t see the point of getting this vaccine.  I mean why bother if all it might do is take my survival rate from 99.7 to 99.8?

Personally I never worried about my survival chances if I got it. I'm more concerned about long term after effects that they still don't know that much about but we are seeing evidence of. This includes all kinds of vascular and respiratory issues. I don't want to take those chances so I took the vaccine. I'm willing to bet the long term effects of covid are significantly worse than the long term effects of the vaccine.  That's just a personal decision you have to weigh

Just got my first dose. I'm young and healthy and use a gym so I'm not worried but looking out for my son as well as not knowing if there are ramifications down the line. Mother nature is a bitch so i prefer not to tempt it.

I've gone to vegas 3 times, been to the indian casinos at least 5 times, ate indoors when it was available (indian casinos and outside of So Cal), hiked without a mask every weekend.  Never caught it.

I'm also in good health, and not old yet.  Or as old.

But the thing with this virus is it's ever changing, and adapting.  Nature can be wonderful and terrifying at the same time.  And if whatever is causing everyone to get hospitalized suddenly gets the right mutation and becomes a dominant strain.  Or as what this next wave is showing, that it's affecting the young more than the old.  I'd rather have some protection while I can get the vaccine.  Than have the next wave or the wave after that, or the wave after that, and realize that the vaccine isn't available because 60% of the population are scrambling to get it.

And outside of that, if private companies start mandating vaccine or even allocating space for those with the vaccine as some have started to do.  I'd rather have a choice at 100% than be limited in my selections.  For instance, some sports arenas are setting aside a vaccinated section.  Also Delta has announced it will resume selling the middle seat.  Not to mention, places are already getting crowded/little social distancing again.  People are sick and tired of it, as they should be, because we went to stupid levels of government control.  And yet with all the control, Calolfornia had the highest outbreak in the nation.  Now it'll be interesting to see what the next level will bring.

On a side note, I'm still skeptical about the vaccines, especially the Pfizer and Moderna ones.  But it's been a good 5 months, and no zombies yet.  Although who knows if in a year or 2 it's zombie time.

You can and should make your own choices regarding vaccination.

I will say with absolute certainty that mere survival is not the only important metric when it comes to COVID. You can be totally healthy going in and will most likely be apparently totally healthy coming out. You can also go in totally healthy and exit with anything ranging from lingering fatigue to multiple long term comorbidities, including pulmonary and significant vascular issues.

I think the odds that you'd have an issue with the vaccine are far less than the odds you'd have if you got COVID.

It sure as shit isn't the flu.

It's like seat belts. You probably aren't going to get in a fatal crash by not wearing them. Probably.

My wife was sick for about 48 hours after her second shot. I'll probably still get it but try to pick a date that is convenient for being sick

july 3, that way you don't have to invite anyone over and cook for them.

Since you are in the industry, have you heard anything about booster shots yet?

I read that they were going to start a trial on a booster for Moderna for the South African variant, but nothing else.

It sure seems like the shots being given currently are effective enough against the variants seen thus far.

Right but everything I've read said they provide protection for 6 months. What happens after the 6 month protection is gone?
