At this point I think you should reread every post you post before you post it to think, will people think I’m being clear here?

Schleber is on a minor league deal. He’s had three good seasons in 2016 - 2018. In 2019 he was terrible and he had one major league AB last year.

He can play center apparently, so that’s a bonus. I’d expect him to be at AAA next season and only come up if there is an injury. Last season they didn’t have minor league depth in the OF and ended up promoting Adell one year too early.

Joc Pederson or someone left handed with a longer track record of success will likely be signed or acquired.

2019 injuries kept Schebler out and 2020 only 1 PA for Atlanta. You know Joc is not coming to halos Artie will not allow it. As of today Adell back to minors that leaves Ward and Schebler until Ohtani cannot pitch.

Why won't Arte allow Joc to sign with the Angels?

Why won’t Arte allow Joc to come as a a free agent?

Schleber is minor league filler with nothing to show for two poor seasons.

OHTANI IS NOT PLAYING THE OUTFIELD IN 2021 or 2022. HE’S A STARTING PITCHER AND DH. Stop this nonsense.

I'm gonna start hiding your posts if you keep repeating yourself.

@Inside Pitch and I had an argument over Chris Archer where IP kept saying his peripherals said he pitched better than results. Mine was, he needs the results, everything else is making excuses for liking the guy for stats. It was my same argument with Tyler Skaggs, here was a guy with all the tools and yet season after season of bent nails.

I wrote all that to say, what about Chris Archer? One of the noteworthy traits of Archer's early years were 200 inning seasons. Basically four seasons in a row pitching above league average before they traded him to Pittsburg and injuries took hold. He was averaging 94 mph on his fastball while pitching in pain when the Pirates shut him down.

He has not pitched in over a year, and went through a nerve surgery last June so If you tilt your head far enough you can almost see a guy that could be doing a better than dead cat bounce. He had the tools, he had his burn out schedule and now may have recovered and is ready to pitch instead of just throw hard.

The Angels could use that guy. Pitches for 180 - 200 innings, just enough to keep most games within reach, with an occasional flash of brilliance. And, for no good reason I can formulate, I think Archer can still be that guy.

Everyone is focused on Spending big on Bauer and flushing the farm for other pitchers while Archer is quietly maybe the best bargain in the off season. You could go one year, you could go three with the last being an option and with how down the market is Archer could be quite the valuable asset.

Or his arm falls off.

Just like anyone else you pick.

That was a long time ago and that Chris Archer is long gone.  The current version is just as awful as his peripherals.

I don't know, his velocity has been pretty stable, not falling like a rock the way Weaver did. I feel like there is something there a pitching coach can work with. Or, maybe you are right and he's done between the ears more than the physical requirements of the job.

I'm definitely being too harsh, he really only had an awful 2019, then he broke down.  I remember looking a while back and it really seemed like the issue for him was the long ball.  He had a sizeable spike in HR rate in like 2016 and it just seemed to stay there.  How much of that was funny baseballs vs a decline in skill.... No clue.

Have I mentioned I hate Manfred and his funny baseballs?  How about my fondness for Fernando Salas?.

Why? Why? Why do you have to drudge up such horrible memories? I never understood why Scioscia would trot him out so often. Easily one of my least favorites of all time.

Why? Why you gotta do something that cruel? That’s just plain mean.

Manfred can go spend a vacation in Somalia and never return as far as I care. Fernando Lamas > Salas.

that was always the allure of Archer.  That he could be fixed and become that ace every thought he was going to be at some point.

if his shoulder is healthy, I'd consider taking a flyer on him for the right price.  I'm sure he'll want to rebuild his value so maybe one year with a vesting option of some sort.  1/6 maybe?

If we got Bauer, I'd take him as the second piece of the rotation.  If Callaway can help Barria keep the ball in the yard, maybe he can do the same for Archer.
