I feel like Kuechel is a foregone conclusion, why would they even mention him today if that wasnt in the works... the real question is who else.
You make a fair point on MadBum, he may not want to go to the AL.
If all thats true, i think were looking at starting the year maybe still missing the ace we want and trading for it mid season as i personally dont think any of the other names out there are worth the cost in prospects or cash.
If i had to guess, Kuechel and maybe Teheran or Miley.   Maybe we put a little into upgrades elsewhere with the difference such as Castro or maybe a placeholder in RF to buy the kids a little more time.

i think that would be pretty close to worst case scenario offseason, as far as pitching goes. i expect much more than that still.

If they can’t afford two free agent options, that probably puts their available money around 25-30m for pitching. That doesn’t include a catcher and I don’t know how that fits into their budget.

It does look like he was granted his release and is a free agent. Like Richards you would be buying up his rehab time with the intent of getting future use in a two year deal. I guess the question is do the Angels have the resources available to pay for him not to pitch for the first couple months of the season. That and does he have any options so they can stash him in the minors for an extended rehab assignment.

His surgery was in April 2018, he should healed enough by now. In fact he thru 1 inning on Sept 29 this year. I think he will be cheap enough to take the risk.

I'm not sure if he has any options or not but he will be 27, he did pitch 1 inning near the end last season with 1 hit and 1 SO. He could be ready by ST. Just a thought.

I disagree, it far better than worst case and leaves room for improvement when it its more likely to be available.
WE got Ohtani back, we run out Kuechel and one of those guys who do eat innings in with them to go along with the kids, thats a good, not great, rotation that the offense will score runs for and the defendse will make better.
Its not ideal, i admit, and im still holding out hope that Eppler finds better, but if MadBum doesnt want to go too the AL and the only trades out there are for overprices guys that arent significant upgrade, its not terrible.

on Bumgarner, and Dallas Keuchelrepresent the high-end remaining options on the open market, and we’ve already heard the club connected to Indians hurler Corey Kluber today–even if a later report characterized the Halos as “out” in the Kluber trade race.

Yeah, there were reports earlier today that they were in. The last report was from Rosenthal saying they’d dropped out. Obviously the negotiations had made it clear that Cleveland wanted more than Eppler was comfortable giving up.

Unless you can find a source saying that’s changed (could happen), they’re probably out.

Rosenthal report was a few hours earlier I believe ... I could be wrong

Correct. The MLBTradeRumors article was released at 8:36pm while Rosenthal’s was at 5:48pm. I hope it’s true.

It says right in that article that a *later* report said they were out. So that is the current state of things, at least as far as the national reporters know.

I think the best case scenario is the Angels called the Indians bluff and told them they’re out, and maybe Cleveland will circle back to them with a more realistic proposal at some point. But not counting on that being the case.
