Funny to see these comments back to back, because they are my two main thoughts on Heaney: 1) Pitchers under club control are such a luxury. Even though I don't think Heaney will ever be fully healthy - didn't he admit as much with his "I hate my body" article? - it just feels worth taking the risk to keep him. The payoff could be so much bigger than the letdown. Intellectually I know it's not likely but still...

And 2) I've been an Angels fan since I was 7 years old, but Kendrick is the only player whose jersey/shirt I ever bought. I was such a big fan. Part of me not wanting to give up on Heaney is that I desperately want that trade to have not been a complete bust.

At this point why not just Put; Barrria, Suarez, Trop and Jc in the rotation and see what they can do.

Canning, JC, Barria, Suarez and Trop/Pena. when heaney is good to go, switch him out with who ever sucks.

Let's just see how thses guys do without having to go back and forth between Mlbanf AAA.

I make that Heaney-Kendrick trade every time if I'm the Angels. One year of a good 2B in his 30's for a top 20 prospect in all of baseball that's major league ready?

It was a slam dunk for the Angels. It hasn't worked out, but I don't fault the Angels on that one because logically speaking, that's a solid trade you make.

It won't be dirt cheap, either, though. He's making $3.4M this year and even with a crappy partial season this year, he'll likely get a sizable boost through arbitration next year.

EDIT: To add to the above, I wonder if the Angels will treat the Heaney situation like they did Shoemaker this past off-season.  One could argue that there are a lot of similarities, past prospect rankings aside.

I know how arbitration works in theory but don't know how the numbers work in a situation like this. If that's accurate... yikes. That changes things.

I thought it was a good trade at the time....and I’d trade Calhoun for a prospect similar to what Heaney was at the time.

Michael Roth is a free agent. We can pay him league minimum to see if he can recapture that magic he had at South Carolina. I fought it, he was pretty terrible in his brief stint with us, but were running out of options
