Who do we go after? This team is such a tease. Stretches of brilliance followed by equal stretches of mediocrity. But I think they could compete with a few right moves.

So who do they target? I am thinking one starter and one pen arm. Who could potentially be available and wouldn't cost us a core player or top prospect?

Scherzer? Strasburg? Greinke?

Don't spend prospects.  Go get Keuchel.

He keeps us in the mix for the 2nd WC but we don't lose other assets.

We get JC, Key, and Upton back soon.  Simmons in August probably.

The main reason for either good or bad stretches is all about the rotation.  Heaney, Skaggs, Canning, Pena, Suarez, Keuchel isn't great, but it's solid.

I wonder what it takes to get Keuchel right now... is he open to a one year deal or are we gona have throw big money at him still?

Supposedly open to a one year deal...wants to “re-establish” value and try again this winter...I wonder if a two year deal would get him...

Keuchel won’t even be ready to pitch till July, and missing that much time, he’s almost sure to be an overpay for one year and is a potential disaster for anything more than that. Pass.

I heard that he's ready and in shape and that he may only need a couple minor league rehab starts.

BTW, Strasburg is owed 100m over 4 years for age 31-34 and can opt out after 2020.  He's also being paid 38m this year.

don't like that at all.

A lot of it is deferred, which the Nationals seem to like to do a lot.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/nationals-journal/wp/2016/05/10/stephen-strasburgs-contract-includes-a-lot-of-deferred-money/?noredirect=on&utm_term=.90a8aa76edfd

Strasburg’s seven-year, $175-million deal, agreed to on Monday and to be announced Tuesday at a news conference at Nationals Park, will actually be paid out over 14 years, according to a person with direct knowledge of the contract. Strasburg will receive $70 million, with no interest, after the deal expires in 2023.

The Angels should definitely explore trades for starting pitching; rental, short-term, and long-term. Bumgarner, Boyd, Stroman, Sanchez, Urena, Ray, Greinke, Minor, etc.

Take advantage of the enormous years that Ward, Rojas, and Walsh are having - at least one of them will be expendable in the near future. Thaiss is in that conversation as well. Similarly, our Burlington/Inland Empire glut of arms, especially the depth guys, are pitching well enough to have some value. Jones would be selling low, but also worth keeping in the mix it someone likes them enough. Barria is sort of becoming a forgotten man and would still have big value. We don’t have room on the 40-man to protect everyone nor clear room on the 25-man for everyone to get full-time play, so now might be the most convenient and opportunistic time to cash some in.

Keuchel value goes beyond the mound and into the clubhouse. He is the veteran presence this young pitching staff needs.

He can be had on a one year deal and gives the Angels the best opportunity to sign him to a longer deal in the off season if they choose too.

It’s only money and the one need the team is desperately seeking to make the playoffs. Angels need to show Trout they’re serious about making the playoffs for once.

btw Boras and Keuchel were spotted at a home game recently.
