Except that I heard it takes about 6 months to be able to hit, after TJS.   If he waits until early October to get it, he may miss the first 3-4 weeks of the 2019 season, factoring in time to wear off the rust.   Which is more important, the next 3 weeks or the first 3 weeks of a new season?

Did you read the article from the previous page.

...At the three-month mark, one surgeon said, he would expect Ohtani to be ready to start taking batting practice. Batting in and of itself, according to another surgeon, is not considered perilous for a UCL; Major League Baseball’s injury-tracking database, according to a source, shows only one case in which a hitter was believed to have blown out his elbow while swinging a bat.

Even better for Ohtani, a third doctor said, is his handedness. The elbow ligament that is stressed most during the swing, he said, is on the trail, or back, arm. Because Ohtani is a right-handed pitcher and left-handed hitter, his trail arm is his left. While this does not inure him from any troubles swinging, the fourth surgeon said, the case for Ohtani to bat next season is well worth whatever risk the Angels would be taking. Particularly, the first surgeon said, because he sees Ohtani being ready to return to full-time batting anywhere between the 4½-to-six-month mark...

I wonder why do you all put trust on the Medical Stuff's Diagnosis.

New UCL damage after 50 pitch means logically,

1: Medical Stuff could not find it on June so could not care about it.

2: His ligament is so worn out that easy to tear.

It is suspicious that they anounce 2 coz to protect themselves.

What they basically said is his UCL is as good as it’s going to get, it’s healthy.   The problem is, his UCL is no longer able to pitch.

I love his determination. He really wants to be not just a "could have been" two-way player who becomes a star hitter, but a two-way star - at both hitting and pitching. And I think he will.

The silver lining here is not only do we get a full year of his bat, but by the time he's ready to pitch, he'll have had 900+ plate appearances as a hitter and be settled in, and not have to be adjusting at both hitting and pitching.

Ohtani in the second half, after being shut down from pitching the first time, has hit .300/.382/.675/1.057

The last 20 games he has been hitting .373/.467/.882/1.349.

Since being told he will need Tommy John sugery he has been hitting .423/.531/1.000/1.531.

Let that sink in for a moment.

Making statements like he would lose power hitting after the tendon is repaired really doesn't make any sense at all.
