Shohei Ohtani struck out eight of the 12 Brewers he faced today. He surrendered one hard-hit ball. He threw 52 pitches. His breaking balls looked v good.

Shohei Ohtani struck out eight of the 12 batters he faced in a "B" game appearance Friday.

All eight outs that he recorded came via the strikeout. Ohtani surrendered a couple runs against a group of Brewers minor leaguers, but he gave up only one hard-hit ball while getting his pitch count up to 52. The righty's fastball sat around 93 mph and touched 96 mph and his breaking pitches "looked like wiffle balls," according to Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports. The competition and setting needs to be considered here, but it certainly looks to be an impressive performance put forth by Ohtani.

Hard to judge a 'b' game. Not just the level of competition, but also the fact they can just end innings when they feel like it. From what I heard on the broadcast the other day they were talking about the goal was to ensure Ohtani went "through" a few innings (came off mound, sat down for awhile, warmed back up, etc). So I wouldn't put too much stock in the 4 innings.

 

The whiffle ball and 8 strikeouts though...that sounds pretty sweet!

I think Ohtani will be more successful as a hitter in April and May, but by June, he'll be in a groove pitching wise.

In the pregame coverage on the A game, they said 2 2/3 innings, 4 hits and 2 runs.

Well, Pedro Moura reported that Ohtani's fastball sat around 93 mph and hit 96 in the first inning. Maybe Ohtani was throwing 97-98 in the second and third innings.

I think the Ohtani signing will turn out to be a good move. Eppler should sign more guys who are aces for nearly league minimum.
