He died of a rare tumor of the jaw that actually began as a benign growth nine years before it became malignant. His wife said he never chewed tobacco.

RIP to one of the best hair and name combo's in baseball history

Hit 200 HRs in his career with an .811 OPS (very good for that era).

His one season with the ChiSox in 1977 helped to improve them by some 26 games over a bad 1976 season.    He and fellow acquisitions Richie Zisk and Eric Soderholm helped to jump the team's HR total from 73 in 1976 to a crazy 192 in 1977 (crazy for that era).

saw him as a phillis playing against the dodgers with that wonderfully huge 'fro. hit a home run that night that didn't clear the wall - it actually landed on the top of the wall and then kicked over into the seats.
