He's making about $161,000 per game this year. So about $35,000-$40,000 for every worthless at bat he takes

In other words he makes over 3 times more than the per capita GDP every single fucking game. Crazy

I pointed out those facts one time and was criticized on this forum for being "envious" of Albert.

This very easily could be added to the other Albert is not a good player anymore threads.  I don't mean to be a jerk, but we have two other threads on this exact same topic on the front page.

I would keep this one and the one predicting what will happen with his contract.   That is enough.

I was looking at the box score last night, and saw just how atrocious Pujol's numbers were...and then I looked at the rest of the box score and realized he was middle of the pack...holy shit.

Name the only player in MLB with a worse WAR this year amongst qualified PAs than TheAlbertross?

Pujols has a 71 wRC+. Jeff Mathis has a 57 wRC+ so far this year. Factoring in defense and Jeff Mathis has been a vastly better and more productive player than TheAlbertross this year. That is remarkable.

Cron is en fuego (.320 BA in past 50 at bats).   Calhoun is starting to heat up (8-21 in August).    Simmons is Simmons.

But will Sosh move Pujols and his .651 OPS down in the order?    Unfortunately, the answer is probably a big LOL.

They'll point to his big RBI numbers and say he belongs there.

Whoever is the social media idiot on the radio after the game today made the asinine statement that Albert Pujols is still driving in runs.

He has a total of 14 rbi in the 21 games after the all Star break.

Two outs with RISP .222/.288/.315/.603

Late and close .194/.265/.306/.571

With men on base .222/.266/.364/.630 with 15 GIDP

He's done. Bench him for the remainder of the season.

But....those are stats, and indicate production, or lack thereof.

He's not here for production. Whatever gave you that idea? He's a future Hall of Famer (as a Cardinal) and we owe him a gazillion dollars over the next four years. Then a ten-year personal services contract.

You don't bench a guy like that. You don't even move him out of whatever spot in the batting order he's comfortable with. Wins are overrated. He's The Machine. He plays.

At some point someone is going to have to face reality. Supposedly we are in the business of trying to win games, and I understand the fear of cutting bait too early on an enormously expensive asset, but right now Pujols is single handedly pulling the team out of contention and it's clear to just about everyone.

Tell him to take the rest of the season off. Go home, and think about what he wants to do. I'd like to suggest he try and get himself in decent shape just to see if he still has something left in the tank, lord knows he has the natural talent. There are 4 years left on the contract, he is done right now and he will stay done, the only question is whether or not the organization is willing to sink the teams chances over the rest of the Trout window in order to accommodate Albert's ego.

You almost have to wonder if and when the players start to grumble about it to sosh (if they havent).

His rep is that hes a great teammate...buuuuuut stuff like this tends to fire up guys who think they could do better...who are heading to arbitration, FA and need some numbers themself...and coaches who get playoff bonuses...

That's really the Crux of the argument for me. Is this team comprised to win games or facilitate Pujols padding counting stats? He is going to the hall of fame whether he hits 100 or no home runs in the next four years. He goes in regardless if he stops now or waits for his 3,000 hits to accumulate.

So let's quit with trying to pimp his stats and get on with winning. Albert is not providing anything that contributes to a win at this point. It isn't a slump when it's August and he is still declining after three bad weeks in a row, four bad months in a row, five declining seasons in a row.

This is what the end of a career looks like in sports when a player keeps playing long after they can't.
