I have no idea how far out these prospects are for the Yankees, but if they are a year or two away I could see them trading for Sale now to anchor the staff during their reload or rebuild.

I agree.  Trading great bullpen arms at the deadline can get you quite the haul.

Also, with Miller going to the Indians, that likely removes one of Joe Smith's suitors. Heyman reported them, Mets, Mariners, and possible Cards were showing interest. Cards just acquired Zach Duke today as well

So the Yankees are rebuilding but they picked up Tyler Clippard.

Deadline is 4 PM EST tomorrow so they still have another day to go. Regarding Joe Smith, this could be a good reference point of what to expect in return for him

 

Zach Duke is having a better year than Joe Smith, is LH and has an extra year of control. Sox got Cards No 12 prospect for him.

It's moronic to think this team can pull a rabbit out of its butt and make the playoffs this year. 

It's just as moronic to think this team can compete next year with a few tweaks here or there, a la trades for Reddick or others. 

Hopefully Eppler recognizes the futility of competing this year and next and can pull off some trades of Shoemaker, Santiago, Bedrosian, Escobar, and Smith while their value is high.

Unfortunately he seems just as skilled as Stoneman at pulling off deadline deals.

Unless we're going to get some other starters for Shoemaker and Santiago, who will we even have in the rotation for 2017?

I mean, there's nobody left but Weaver and Skaggs. Everyone else is injured long-term, or will be gone like Lincecum.
