Republicans picked a terrible year to go with someone who isn't a moderate. They would easily win the election if they gave the nom to Kasich. Why are they rejecting him? I think he'd be a good president even though there are some issues I don't agree with him on. He's actually one of the most religious candidates of the 17 who ran on the Republican side.

I'm registered as republican and I can't remember a good moderate candidate. That's our biggest issue as a party. We are incapable of small victories, we want it all or we want nothing. My favorite part about this election is that the candidates on both sides are so ridiculous that we have heard nothing about the two issues we hear too much about, abortion and gay marriage. Two things in my opinion have zero issue on whether or not they would be a good president or not.

I don't think Kasich is all that ridiculous though. He's not perfect but compared to the rest of the field, he comes out looking pretty good. But seeing as I don't share some of the anger coming from the base, comments similar to mine are seen as more of an insult than an endorsement.

one thing i like about kasich is that he's a governor. that gives him experience at governing. combine that with his previous work in DC as a congressman, and it puts him ahead of the rest of the field when it comes to experience.

 

i also like that he hasn't devolved too terribly much into an 8 year old like cruz and trump.

Both sides have made some terrible choices this century when they could have taken the nomination:

 

-In 2004 the democrats would have had a better chance had they not run John "I'm not GWB" Kerry

-In 2012 the republicans would have had a better chance had they not run Mitt "I'm not Obama" Romney

 

I think the republicans are definitely beating democrats as far as suckage goes this century though, especially when you consider the house/senate elections where they lost seats due to some of the stupid stuff said by the far right shortly before the elections.  I think both parties are for the most part terrible but the republicans seem to have gotten further away from what they supposedly stand for and that's why Trump is a serious candidate.  If anything I hope Trump getting so much attention or even the nomination is the kick in the ass they need to at least get back to their roots while trying to appeal to a new generation of voters.  For the most part they seem so out of touch it's almost comical until you consider they're one of two major political parties in this country then it's just sad.
