If Trout and the Halos fade in September, Donaldson contines and Toronto pulls a WC spot, that would be the only way Trout doesn't win. There are no other hitters or pitchers on playoff teams worthy in the AL.

Trout is .217 in his last 7, closer to Iannetta than MVP caliber.  Sure, sample size, but he looks a bit ordinary at the plate, too often resembling the guy hitting behind him.  If he stays in this funk, say adios to any post season.  He won't of course, but it is curious to see someone this talented struggle to make contact.

I love Trout but if the Angels continue to fade he will be part of that fade. He hasn't hit much in August and the strike outs seem to be on the rise again.

Donaldson probably has passed him as of now. He's catching Trout in HR's....their BA are similar but more importantly I think Donaldson leads the AL in RBI which the voters slobber over. Toronto also looks poised to finish with a better record

 

Barring some collapse by Toronto, I think Donaldson likely wins the award.
