He might fall into the class of "Overlooked guys that put up solid minor league numbers and never got a real shot with a major league team". I know he was a second round pick, but he still never got a long term shot at a starting job in the majors. He's been given that opportunity now, and he's taking advantage of it while also showing an intense fire starter personality, a la Eckstein. Can't fault the guy for capitalizing on a good opportunity.

The hate for Howie on here was ridiculous. He had one season where he hit into a lot of DPs. Look his stats up he was as consistent as they come. IP once said he was hated for not being what someone said he would be and he's absolutely right.

Loved Howie. Trade may have worked for both teams, but I still hated seeing him go.

The one season he hit into a double plays was a season we missed the postseason despite having the highest expectations of any Angels team ever assembled.

One of the greatest rookie seasons ever from Mike Trout. 

 

Combine that with a drought of postseason appearances since 2009 and it's understandable why the fans overreacted.
