Why don't people like Joe Buck?

He's the best national play by play guy out there (if you want to say Dan Shulman, I won't argue).  His call last night was a nice throwback to the Bobby Thompson shot too.  Maybe it's just the cool thing to hate announcers

I like Shulman better.  Buck is fine, though.

 

I think part of it is because he's been Fox's top guy for so long.  Since 1996.  Most things get old.

Buck is better than Tim McCarver and the recent TBS guys. What most people don't like is FOX and TBS setting up commentator teams that are openly rooting for a team during a national broadcast. Buck shouldn't be calling Cardinals games any more than Cal Ripken should have been made the color commentator during the ALCS.

Whenever I listen to Joe Buck I get the impression he'd rather be anywhere else than announcing. It's like listening to the homer announcer when the team is doing badly except it's for every team. Double so when he's doing baseball instead of football.

That's exactly Joe Buck....just 'meh'.  But the guy with the best job(s) in sports broadcasting should be more than that.  If his father wasn't a legend, we wouldn't know who Joe Buck is.  He brings nothing to the table.  He also comes across pretty arrogant.

Agreed on Shulman/Boone.   Shulman is also a solid college basketball play-by-play guy.

 

I never had a problem with Joe Buck.    I actually like that he's kept his dad's tradition going in WS telecasts ('We'll see you tomorrow night.").

ESPN has/had this radio guy that would give the count the same way after every pitch in a super annoying way. "Ball 1, Strike 2." Is that Schulman?
