Info, please, from those who have lived in the IE

I am currently under consideration for a job in Adelanto, CA, just outside Victorville. This is a potential offer that came out of nowhere, and the pay seems outstanding. All I know about Victorville is that my father was stationed there for a while during World War II, and it is a decent place to stop for food and gas along I-15 between Vegas and LA/OC.

 

Any tips/advice/warnings/psych referrals you can give me will be appreciated.

the speed limit on the 15 is 75. the speed limit when passing through adelanto suddenly jumps up to 90 so you can get the heck out of there a lot quicker.

I grew up in Riverside and my grandparents have lived in Adelanto for about 20 years, so I've spent a fair amount of time there. Believe the others. It is a shit hole. It'd be hard to imagine a more terrible place to live. I've spent a lot of time in rural Kansas and Nebraska, and I've yet to run into a place as WT as Adelanto/Victorville. You couldn't possibly pay me enough money to live there.

My wife is from that area and I can't say I am fond of it.  Even she doesn't ever want to visit.

If you are at all happy where you are, stay.  Adelanto and Victorville truly are awful places.  They have all the fun weather of Vegas without any of the good stuff. 

 

Seriously, even folks from the IE don't want to claim the high desert area.

Funny this thread comes up because I was offered a promotion in Victorville yesterday as well. The difference is, I actually lived in Apple Valley for 8 years so I already know it's a crap place to live. I would never want to live there again. If the job is worth it however, you could always live in Ontario/Rancho Cucamonga or somewhere by there. The drive up the hill isn't too incredibly bad. Only negative to that is Cajon Pass tends to get shut down a few times a year because of brush fires or bad weather. So I'd save some sick days.

We used to catch the 395 from the 15 near Adelanto...was such a shithole we switched our route and prefer driving Highway 14 through Palmdale and Lancaster.

 

I remember onetime I took the "side road" instead of the 15 when driving south from Barstow...one of the few times I've actually been scared driving a road in the daytime...it looked like one meth lab after another and we quickly abandoned our plan to photograph along that stretch of road.

 

So, I'd say it's a perfect place to raise a family.

If I remember right VHF is a medical professional for a prison in Vegas so that may be what is bringing him to Adelanto.

 

Chimi, my wife is from Apple Valley, I went out there once and saw that it was dreadful.  The 45 minute drive from San Berdoo is pretty bad, couldn't imagine the hour from Rancho.  Plus Rancho isn't much better.
