Chris Iannetta frustrates me..

He gives Scioscia a mostly-worthless veteran to keep throwing out there while a younger guy with more potential gets spot starts.  Watching him in the bottom of the eighth inning behind the dish was painful, and then he probably redeemed himself in Scioscia's eyes with his walk in the ninth.

After Downing moved to the OF in 1982 to make way for Boone, this org has developed exactly ONE catcher in 32 years that could be decent at both defense and offense (Bengie Molina), and TWO others good defensively but terrible offensively in Jose Molina and Mathisn't.

I know catcher is a tough position to fill, but that is a HORRIBLE, TERRIBLE track record for an org to have.

I think it's time to give Conger 60% of the starts the rest of the season and see what he does. He's 26, time to see if he is the true main catcher in the long run.

He had one bad game throwing. Let's not overreact.

Agreed.

A lot of people on these boards have been complaining about ALL Angels pitchers ending up with a lot of first pitch balls. Iannetta is a major factor in this. In the 8th inning last night, Kohn's first pitch was clearly a strike which was called a ball due to Iannetta's poor pitch framing. This pitch framing problem causes pitchers to get behind and results in starters not going deep into games, and the bullpen coming out earlier.

You lost me at "mostly-worthless veteran"

No, we don't, if Conger gets injury, let the pitchers bat, it's just one game.

You don't leave yourself completely unprepared like that.  Then you are stuck having to make an emergency call up instead of taking your time and making a thoughtful move ahead of time.

It makes me wonder if the bullpen would still be such a mess with a more capable catcher?  I know they all have problems but I just wonder what it could look like with a catcher who calls a game based on other pitches than fastball.
