Chris Iannetta frustrates me..

the FO cant be serious about contending with iannetta being the main catcher going forward.  i think iannetta is the main problem with the pitching staff not mike butcher.

What I've been saying since he arrived. This was all a result of the anybody but Mathis mentality. We should have signed Russell Martin when he was available instead of extending Iannetta. He's one of the best game callers in MLB.

He is a horrible catcher. Joe Smith's terrible inning was mostly CI's fault. The pitches called ball were strikes but CI actually stabbed them and made them look like balls. I don't care if he can take a walk above most catchers he is killing us.

Yes, leadoff. If he focused solely on that - on taking walks and trying to get on base - I bet he could get on at a .370 OBP clip.

he's pretty bad defensively.  when most can recognize that he can't frame a pitch properly or block a passed ball or sequence a hitter then I just don't know what to say.

He looked fine to me last year. He's struggled this year, but I think he'll fix it.

 

Also people sure do love Ibaniez when he's been ****ing awful.

Not impressed. The runs he has cost have been crucial runs. The pitchers were pretty damn good today, but when you have to look at a WP, PB, And a HBP all in the stretch of what, 5 batters late in a close game?

Worst defensive catcher I can remember with the Angels...Napoli wasn't very good but he was better than Ianetta...may be time to give Conger a real shot....

It is especially frustrating when you consider that we knew that we weren't getting a lot of offensive production by bringing him in. His defense was supposed to be his main value to the club, along with his ability to work with a young pitching staff. Tonight I saw a guy going through the motions. It cost us the game.

I think Jason Kendall batted lead off. The point being made though is a catcher's first priority is to be a great catcher unless you hit like freaking Piazza then you can get away with sucking. A lot of walks is not enough to look away at what CI looks like behind the plate.

Iannetta needs to work with the bullpen more.

He acts as if he has never seen a single pitch from Maronde, Smith and co.

He's never going to be a great receiver, but he did handle Richards pretty well.

I think he deserves playing time at DH.

He definitely has value as someone who gets on base. 

 

 

Our other options at DH are Ibanez, and freese? Both those guys are hitting under .150 with an OPS around .500 right now.
