Dodgers Significantly Increase Ticket Prices

Recommended Posts

Looks like a classic case of supply and demand. When you win, more people want to see the winning product. People don't pay to see stars – they really pay to see winners.

"While it is common for a pro sports team to raise prices on season tickets each year, it is highly unusual for a team to raise those prices twice within a year. Among the price hikes: field box MVP from $75 per game/$6,150 for the season to $100/$8,200; infield loge box value from $26/$2,132 to $40/$3,280; and preferred reserve value from $5/$410 to $12/$984."

Have at it, Dodger fans...

98% Renewal rate on season ticket holders and they may have to institute a waiting list.  I also found it interesting that hard tickets are no longer provided according to a commentator, so you have to print out at home or put on your phone.  If this is true then folks that like to collect hard tickets to memorable games, etc are out of luck and the resale situation becomes more risky to the buyer.

What's the big deal here?  No one who has already paid or was already a season ticket holder is being asked to pay these prices. They're newly released seats.  If people want to pay this price, let them.

"In a typical year, Siegel said, the Dodgers can sell 3,000 to 5,000 seats based on fans declining to renew season tickets. With a renewal rate exceeding 98% this year, he said, the Dodgers could not accommodate fans wishing to add season seats or upgrade from a partial-season package. If all those fans were accommodated at the original prices, he said, the Dodgers would not have enough ticket inventory for individual and group sales."

This makes you appreciate Arte even more.

Even during the golden years when the Angels were racking up division titles, the ticket prices never got close to bad.

The Dodgers have been consistently cheaper than the Angels until this last price hike.  Their 1st pricing of season tickets for this year was much cheaper than Angels tickets.
