There's not a bad seat in the house, you should know this Cory.

You're going to miss two very good events in a row bud. These only come once a year. Save your pennies! :)

I'd love to go just for the fanfest and beer drinking, but I have other things going on that weekend that I previously committed to. Bummed out about it but who knows what'll happen!

Man, getting more and more expensive each year.

This has been a tough one for us.  But since you brought it up, I think it's worth addressing.  (Pretty sure we addressed this last year too, but it's worth repeating.)

Two years ago (the year Arte came and we had to move the event to the Fiesta Resort), we had set a price of around $25.  This price was set when we thought we were still going to be at a Hail Mary's type place.  Well, with the signing of Albert and increased interest in Fanfest, we had to move to a bigger location.  However, we never raise the price of the event even though it became a sit down dinner at a resort.  As a result, one of our members (not Chuck or I) had to write a check for over $700 to cover the shortfall.  He never asked for and never got his money back.  He viewed it as his gift to the board.

While this was an incredibly kind gesture, I quite frankly never felt good about it.  So going forward, we decided that we were not going to let that happen again.  These became our goals for holding the event ...

* Let's plan the most fun event that we can for our community.
* Let's keep the price as low as possible.
* Let's ensure we don't lose money.

After last year's event we also added another goal:  Let's start adding a charity component to all of our events.  We started doing this with last year's Summer Fanfest Weekend.  With the help of Jerome Williams and his family, we raised over $6,000.  This will be the first Spring Training Fanfest where we will be adding the charity piece (for both Angels RBI League and Miracle League of OC) and we are super excited about it!

So, let me address the costs.  The prices at the Fiesta Resort have gone up.  I don't know if this is due to the DoubleTree taking over, inflation, a combination of the two or other factors.  But the prices have gone up.  They're also charging us for stuff they didn't before:  the podium where people speak, the mic at the podium, the ability to use the audio system in the room that the mics plugs into, etc. etc. etc.

Another piece to factor in is the price of our special guests.  When folks like Jerry Dipoto, Tim Mead, Kole Calhoun, Victor Rojas, etc. come to the event, they're doing that for the fans.  They're not charging us a speaking engagement fee to come talk to and interact with us.  Well, we're not going to return their kindness by charging them for the event.  We comp their entry/meal.  As a result, we have to factor that into the event cost for everyone.

So, where does all the cost of entry money go?  Here's a basic overview ...

* To the DoubleTree (DT) for the event space, room facilities, meals, staffing, gratuities, taxes, etc.
* To cover the cost of special guests (a number that is unknown to us and a complete wild card in all this)

What happens if we don't have enough money and owe more than we took it?  Crap!  Well ... we eat it.

What happens if after the event we have money left over?  In the event that we have monies left over after the event, here's where they will go ...

* Part will go to the Angels RBI League and part will go to the Miracle League of OC.  (Note that most of our charity fundraising that evening will be done through drawings and auctions of Angels items and memorabilia.  This is going to be a new a fun part of the evening.)
* We would look to do some advertising with the Angels minor league teams like the 66ers, Bees, etc.  In the past, this advertising has allowed us to get interview access to the players.  It has been through these interactions that we've developed relationships with players who then come to our Fanfests.

It’s important to note that only the special guests have their meals and entry comp’d.  Neither Churck, myself or any of the other guys that help run the event get comp’d.  I just paid $125 for my wife, my 3 kids and myself to attend the event.

Sooooo … there you have it.  Sorry for the long post, but I thought it was important to unpack everything.  We’re not trying to hide anything and it’s important to us that we’re being aboveboard with everyone on this.  Fanfest is not a money maker.  But it’s also important that it’s not a money loser.
