If Zimmerman had listened to the police, who told him to stay away, none of this would have happened. Hard to believe a man carrying a gun, looking for a confrontation, ends up killing someone and gets off. Then again, it's Florida.

 

 

No one knows exactly what happened or what these two individuals were going through when this incident happened except Martin, Zimmerman, and apparently red321.

Thanks for the clarification. Things are so slanted to support or discredit a particular pov that its become increasingly more difficult to get the truth in any kind of unbiased way.

I was able to see most of the trial on tv and I concur with the jury's conclusion. The burden was on the state and the prosecution didn't prove their case.

She and Martin both attempted to get their trials dismissed via "Stand Your Ground" motions. The motions in both trials got rejected, therefore the cases are similiar.

I personally think she should have received jail time based on thsi but the 20yr mandatory sentence was probably excessive. IMO mandatory sentencing laws are usually bad, and typically motivated to make prosecutors jobs easier (people more likely to accept plea deals instead of going to trial if there's a risk of an over the top sentence)

I believe one of the problems in this case was Obama coming out with his statement, "If I had a son..."

 

It is not appropriate for a CINC to get involved and express his opinion on this matter.

The prosecution should have concentrated on manslaughter the entire time.  It's all they could really prove.

I didn't say it had anything to do with the verdict, mt.  I have to ask why this story was the lead on all MSM TV and newsprint.  Huge headlines in the LAT.

 

This was a tragedy, no doubt.  But this the biggest issue of the day?  CNN devoted most of last week to this trial?

It's a big story to a pretty large group of americans.  Regardless, the prosecution really messed this up and it makes me wonder if they really wanted to convict this guy.

Was the OJ case the biggest issue of the day? Not in the grand scheme of things but it dominated the news especially over the summer. This is nothing new and the media in some cases is doing a great job of making race the big issue.
