Jadiel Sanchez, CF

Track Record: Drafted in the 12th round in 2019 out of Natividad Rodriguez Gonzalez High in Arroyo, P.R., Sanchez struggled in a brief debut in the Rookie-level Gulf Coast League after signing, then saw his development stunted when the 2020 minor league season was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic. Sanchez refined his body in 2021, gaining 30 pounds of muscle with exit velocities topping out at 109 mph, and hit well in 21 games at Low-A Clearwater, with a .297 average and .819 OPS, although he missed time due to injury.

Scouting Report: Sanchez returned to Clearwater to start the 2022 season after an abbreviated 2021 campaign and has stood out for his hittability and bat-to-ball skills from both sides of the plate. Sanchez has a smooth swing and stays on plane for a long time, with a low swing-and-miss rate while showing the ability to hit high-end velocity and identify spin. He had a solid 90th percentile exit velocity of 103.5 mph in April and has a chance to grow into plus power as he matures and starts to tap into his strength. Sanchez has a plus arm and good instincts, but with limited range he likely profiles best in a corner, where he provides average to above-average defense.

The Future: Sanchez’s tools are exciting, but he’ll need to show he can hold up over a full minor league season after appearing in just 38 games coming into 2022.
