My baseline hope for Trout is that he plays enough, and is good enough, to end on the first page of Fangraphs' WAR leaders - meaning, top 30 all-time (he's #41 now), and 84.7 or higher.

Now I don't really care that much about the first page of Fangraphs - he'll get there, one way or another. But it is what it represents. He started the year at 77.8 WAR for his career, so the first page would mean he gets to about 7 WAR for the season (or 6.9 to be exact). Obviously his past talent level is much higher, and in some sense anything below 8 WAR would be disappointing by his own standards. But 7 WAR is still a superstar, and it implies that he was healthy enough to play 120+ games.

He's got 0.5 so far on the season, so is about 1/14th of the way there in 9 games played out of 10.

Oh, and when he gets onto that first page, he'll almost certainly do so in 1450 games or less. Only one other "first pager", Roger Connor with 86.2 WAR in 1997 games, has fewer than 2000 games played, and only Lou Gehrig (116.3 in 2164 games) also has fewer than 2200.
