Angels 2021 Offseason Front Office/Coaching Staff Changes Thread

I think Tim Salmon would be a good coach, and probably Erstad as well. I like that the Angels are bringing back players from Maddon's time with the Angels to be coaches.

Even Callaway was with us in 2002, and Wise was with us for several years, even though they weren't on the World Series Roster.

Any other names that would make good coaches? I mean, Mathis jumps out as a catching coach if his playing days are done.

Maybe I'm the only one that feels this way, but I'm not entirely thrilled they're still rolling with Wise as the pitching coach. He's been an asset to the organization as a multi-level coordinator in the minors, and working with the some of the pitchers at Salt Lake, but it seems like every other organization has someone with a greater track record or different solutions at the major league level.

Mickey Callaway was probably the best pitching coach in baseball, or at least he had a great thank record of success, and that sucks he couldn't keep it in his pants and the Angels lost him. But his instruction and insight was exactly what our collection of young pitchers needed.

The feeling all along, at least how I felt, was that Wise was coming in for the sake of continuity, until Callaway was officially fired after the investigation, and the Angels could hire an actual pitching coach.

And yet here we are.

I'm certainly pleased with the progress of Suarez and Sandoval, but I just wonder how well they may progress if they had instruction from a seasoned pitching coach at the major league level.

I'm not convinced Wise is the right guy at the right place, but perhaps Perry and Joe see something we don't in regards to his leadership.

Is there anyone you think would be better, either within the system or outside of it?

Serious question, I have absolutely no idea.

I would've liked to see the Angels make an offer to Ray Searage, the pitching guru from Pittsburgh years back. Also, Larry Rothschild is well respected throughout the games and the Padres fired him last year.

I really like that Minasian hires guys from successful organizations. It MAY also be a sign that Arte has decided to invest more in the organization as a whole.

I hope the Angels start to adopt the organizational philosophy of the Rays and Dodgers of emphasizing winning at all organizational levels.  That may mean sacrificing a bit of development, but I would consider having a winning mentality as part of development.
