Would he be in charge of the part of pro scouting that helps make decisions in free agency?  Or is he more in charge of pro scouting that helps the team prepare for opponents by scouting the other team?

I don't know. It could be either of those things, but it could also be scouting of professional players not in the majors (aka minor leaguers).

Maybe @Jeff Fletcher can answer?

Pro scouting means evaluating the players in the other 29 organizations (big league and minor league) for acquisitions.

Advance scouting is preparing for a specific opponent. (And most teams just do it all with video now.)

"Additionally, the Cardinals had another departure to the Angels’ organization in the past week. Joe Kruzel, a minor-league manager with the team, has been hired to work with the Angels’ minor-league system as a field coordinator."

Interesting to see Jeter Hines also get the boot considering they just hired him a year ago.

All 3 seem like Joe Maddon "guys" so you gotta wonder if it's just Perry bringing in his own coaches to surround Joe or if Joe wanted to make a change at those positions as well.

I guess we'll gain more insight once we see who they hire as replacements.

Wasn't Hines supposed to be the defensive guru that blah blah helped the other Jeter?  These were the fall guys for the bad defense.  Maddon 101.

Did you like the job Wise did or like his familiarity with some of the younger arms?

A lot of guys took steps forward/transitioned to MLB. Canning was the big outlier, his tinkering needs to be addressed.

Most of the staff saw improvements in the areas they have control over, the team FIP was 4.25, in 2019 it was over 5.00 .  A great deal of the issues pitching wise were brought on by the abysmal defensive performances.  There was a lot of predictive data improvement across the board.

Canning btw needs to spend the winter working with the guy they hired from Driveline either improving his change or upping his FB.

. @Inside Pitch do you think with a year under his belt and with the job officially his, Wise takes the current pitching staff to the next level or will his inexperience at the MLB level cause their development to plateau?

There are very few pitching coaches who provide the sort of impact you're talking about.  Can he see when a guy is off and get him to adjust, I think so.  It's hard to say how big of an influence he can have based on just one year.
