Seriously though, for the first time it's beginning to look like the Angels aren't on the losing end of a deal, and it is  refreshing.  

Maybe Bauer was just having some kinky rough sex with this girl, maybe it's something much worse.  But could you imagine the PR nightmare that Callaway and Bauer would've created in a six month span? Furthermore, Bauer made enemies with the wrong dude in Manfred, and his Cy Young performance was almost certainly because of the now banned sticky stuff. 

Gerrit Cole's spin rate has also plummeted since banning it, and he's also on record for texting Bubba and asking for it which no one has bothered denying.  Looks like another bullet dodged there.  

And the young pitchers the Angels have are finally establishing themselves as major league weapons. Shohei is healthy and they finally have upside in the minors with Detmers and Rodriguez.

Yeah I've read that so many times now, and it reeks of complete BS as much now as it did two years ago.

Free agents tend to sign with teams that offer the most money, period. We heard that Trout wanted to return home to the East Coast before signing the mega extension and that Harper wanted to be back out West. We heard that Cole wanted to come home to So-Cal and that Ohtani was destined to pick the Yankees or the Mariners. 

Yeah, geographic location plays a role if all things are generally equal as they tend to be now in FA with teams using statistics and projections to value players. 

Had the Angels offered the most money to Zack Wheeler, he would be an Angel. They either didn't, or the gap between them and the Phillies wasn't great enough. 

But I don't believe for a second that the Angels couldn't have landed Wheeler regardless of the contract they offered.
