WILL TOP RUSSIAN NHL DRAFT PROSPECTS BE IMPACTED BY WAR CONSEQUENCES?

I think this is where having multiple first round picks, especially late round picks would be beneficial.  This may be one of those cases, where 5 years down the line, you will be saying why was this person taken 30, or even second third round?  Oh yeah, Russia.

So under Green, Vancouver was 9-15-2.  Under Bruce there it is, they are 20-8-4.  They are now 3 points out of a wild card, 4 points out of the #3 seed.  It would not surprise me one bit if they aren't sellers, but buyers.  Boesner is a RFA, Miller is signed for next season.  If they are going to be moved, they could be moved in the offseason, and still get a bounty deal they want.

And on the Ducks end.  Remember, that Bruce has coached, with success, Rakell, Manson and Lindholm.  I would not be surprised if one of them ended up in Vancouver.

looking at the standings, with some 25 games to go.  If Vancouver can continue to chip away at their horrible start.  Bruce could knock Edmonton and Vegas out of the playoffs.

I don't expect the Knights to get in. They are having trouble fielding a team. In the Pittsburgh game last week, they had eight front line players out, and they lost Max Pacioretty midway through the second period. They haven't fielded anywhere near a complete team all season. I barely know half of these guys.

Panthers Acquire Ben Chiarot

Quote

The Panthers have added to their back end, acquiring Ben Chiarot from the Canadiens in exchange for their 2023 first-round pick, a 2022 fourth-round selection (acquired in today’s Frank Vatrano trade), and prospect center Ty Smilanic.

Well, there goes one of the destinations for Lindholm.

Talk about a steep price.

NHL trade grades: Lightning add Brandon Hagel to their middle six, send two first-rounders to Blackhawks

Quote

The trade

Lightning get: Forward Brandon Hagel and fourth-round picks in 2022 and 2024.

Blackhawks get: Forwards Taylor Raddysh and Boris Katchouk and first-round picks in 2023 and 2024.

Hagel was drafted by the Sabres #159 overall.  Looks like he wasn't even traded to the Blackhawks, just that the Blackhawks signed him to an entry level contract.

Talk about all in.

Claude Giroux traded by Flyers to Panthers for Owen Tippett

Quote

Connor Bunnaman, a fourth-round pick by the Flyers in 2016, is also going to the Panthers in the deal. The Flyers also are getting the Panthers' second-round pick in 2023 and their first-round pick in 2024, in addition to Tippett.

This means that the Panthers have traded all of their first and second round picks for 2022, 2023, and 2024.

Florida playing the game.  It turns out it wasn't a minor injury at all.

I'm told Aaron Ekblad will be placed on LTIR and will not return during the regular season, but sometime during the first round. So cap space is no issue for #FlaPanthers. Expect them to be active - and maybe use that space (after Hagg deal) to attempt to recoup some picks.

Toronto Maple Leafs Acquire Mark Giordano, Colin Blackwell

Quote

4:20pm CT: The return for Giordano and Blackwell has been revealed. ESPN’s Kevin Weekes was first to report that the Maple Leafs are sending two second-round picks and a third-round pick to the Kraken for the duo. Seattle is also retaining 50% of Giordano’s $6.75MM cap hit. TSN’s Pierre LeBrun clarified that it is a 2022 second-rounder, 2023 second-rounder, and 2024 third-rounder, all Toronto’s own. Both teams have now confirmed the deal.

Steep, but no first rounders and no prospects.
