I honestly can’t believe what just happened.

I was worried that might happen when Joe called for the review. Iglesias clearly was off the bag, and there is no longer a 'in the neighborhood play' because of the new rule. The Chase Utley rule is so stupid and subjective that any outcome is possible... the runner slid before the bag and could touch it, which qualifies as a slide by the rule.

Yes Walsh should be starting, but no, that wasn’t Albert’s fault.

Infielders practice these double play drills with specific timing, Iglesias dragged his foot expecting a normal throw. The lob caused him to not be on the base and the runner was right on top of him. A normal throw means Iglesias catches with plenty of time, foot on base, and most likely gets out of the way and makes an accurate throw.

Phat Albert at it again.

Did you see Iglesias throw?  No first baseman could ever cause that.  Also you are told to guarantee an out, and Iglesias didn’t do that.  It is on him.

I just don’t understand the slide rule then, because yes technically he still touched the base. But you’re allowed to kick your legs out Bruce Lee style to upend the shortstop? I thought that’s what they were trying to eliminate, to make a guy have to slide directly to the base.
