Simba ideal QO candidate

I'm a big fan. I was definitely in the minority that was excited we traded for him at the time. 

That being said I wouldn't advocate an extension. If he accepts the QO I'd love him for a high price 1 year. If he doesn't I'd love the draft pick and plug in Fletcher.

Simba's great, but given that Arte operates within a budget, I just can't see him being re-signed beyond this year.  If he does indeed depart, I imagine we'll see Fletcher and Rengifo combining to play SS/2B.  LaStella is likely to depart as a free agent, too.

Let season play out, but I feel FA will get less this off season as owners will take a wait and see attitude. Revenues will be down without fans and 2021 a big question mark for all of us. That being said I was totally wrong and surprised by Betts contract.

I still don't understand why he's playing since he's going to be a free agent and Arte isn't going to spend any money next year. they should just bench him once Rendon comes back.

I said before the season I don't think it's worth giving him an extension, and I think I'll probably feel that way regardless of how he performs this season.  Provided Rengifo comes back and TLS plays like his old self, I'd look at shopping him for a starter at the deadline (with control), obviously probably not in a one for one deal.  Our prospects who are very raw will not get a chance to prove anything/break out in the minors this year with no season will not get a chance to increase their trade value, so he could very well being one of, if not our most attractive realistic trade piece.  If at least 4 of Fletcher, Rendon, Rengifo, Ward, Thaiss, Rojas, some other young infielder play well this season, I wouldn't mind trading him for a rental either if it's the best deal.  Also, with all the top SS free agents hitting the market very soon (Seager, Story, Semien, Lindor, Baez), and with Pujols coming off the books, who knows if Arte might decide to add another star hitter?

I would extend Simmons in normal times but these are not normal times.

who knows what 2021 will bring.

that being said - A. Simmons brings a lot to the Halos and any team he is on. A better defensive SS you probably won't find in MLB.

I'd rather have Fletcher at SS. Simmons is expendable.

His hitting has been mediocre since March 2019.    If he doesn't pick it up at the plate, it will be tough for him to make more than just say $6-8 million/year.

He's in the beginning of his decline.  Big pass on QO on him and should not resign him at this point or they will regret it like they did with Upton's contract.

I'd give him the QO. At worst, you have him for one more year in his age 31 season, which should be OK. Definitely don't want to extend him though. Most of his value is from his defense, and that's not something I wanna bet on in his age 32+ years on a long-term deal

In a season that may not be completed, why would Simmons or any rental have a lot of value at the trading deadline? I’m not giving up a premium prospect for a guy who I may get very little out of, if we have more virus outbreaks like this week...
