ricky henderson is my all time favorite player. he was awesome. gets a bad rap from some people too. you tell me another 1st ballot hof'er that goes and plays in the independent leagues for pennies because he loves playing the game so much. i saw him set several all time records in person and i was at gwynn's last at bat. made sure to catch all those as opportunity presented itself here in san diego.

I'm a big Ricky fan too -- and the story about him getting on the bus (his tenure), with the Padres is one of my all time favorite baseball stories ....

Always liked edgar martinez, too. As much as i hate the mariners, the 90s team was amazing in terms of guys who played there all at once. Its still unbelievable to this day how they never won a ring. Yankees were at their peak and all, so its easier said than done. But its crazy to think that roster didnt win at least one.

if we're gonna go back in time, i'll throw in brooks robinson, frank robinson, frank howard, roberto clemente, willie stargell and that bizarre hitch in his warm-up swing, and harmon killebrew.

guys i saw in batting practice that just crushed it were darren daulton at the '93 all star game workout, mark macgwire, and griffey jr.

a guy i saw at anaheim for bp that mashed was adam dunn. that was one doggone impressive power show, my goodness. i don't think i've seen anyone hit such mammoth impressive shots as him, except for maybe jr. griffey.

I remember Dunn being a hot topic on the old board. The sabr types loved him, the old school hated him.

Kind of funny. Trout vs Mcab is what forced the masses to change their views on advanced stats. But dunn was sort of doing it way before it. Dunn was doing 15 years ago what teams are telling their guys to do today.

I happened to be watching MLB Network this morning and they were showing a replay from the 1975 World Series.  Cincinnati Reds vs. Boston Red Sox.  There were so many players in that series that we could have had man crushes on.  Here is just a sample of the Big Red Machine line up:

  1. Johnny Bench
  2. Tony Perez
  3. Joe Morgan
  4. Dave Concepcion
  5. Pete Rose
  6. George Foster
  7. Ken Griffey Sr.
  8. Cesar Geronimo

The Red Sox had:

  1. Carlton Fisk
  2. Carl Yastrzemski
  3. Doug Griffin
  4. Rick Burleson
  5. Jim Rice
  6. Fred Lynn
  7. Dwight Evans
  8. Cecil Cooper

Pitchers included Luis Tiant, Bill Lee, Rick Wise, Dick Pole (best name ever), Don Gullett (another classic), and Jack Billingham.  Just from this game alone, I can easily choose 7 or 8 players who I grew up admiring.  Watching the replay really brought back some great childhood baseball memories.

Yeah, been watching throwback Angels stuff on FSW the last few days.... hard to believe guys like joyner, finley, devo and chili davis were here 30 plus years ago, which is depressing (lol)... but brings back some great memories.

Last night they played langstons no hitter.... was crazy to see devo, joyner, johnny ray, jack howell etc etc etc..... hitting flyouts to a 20 year old ken griffey jr.
