Poll: Rendon or Strasburg

They both signed identical contracts. you're only allowed to consider the player. don't talk about team needs, etc.

You're the gm. you've got the two players in front of you for the same money, which one do you take?

Rendon, and it isn't particularly close. Strasburg is really good, but I have far less faith in his longevity.

7 years for a pitcher is a really long time. Less so for a position player. Also, Strasburg is a couple of years older.

Rendon over the life of the contract.  

Stras is gonna give a few non-consecutive tremendous seasons on that deal which will propel the Nats forward.  In years he doesn't, they won't be nearly as good.

Strasburg will not return the value that Rendon will. I believe part of Strasburg's contract is a thank you for big dicking the NL and the Astros in the playoffs and World Series.

Thats about right.

Cole was and still is the better fit, for us. But nothing is perfect.

Long term solutions wise, rendon is pretty huge in the huge book of angels history. Talk about a huge add. Bonafide star player in his prime. Trout finally having a partner. Etc etc.

Rendon is my choice as GM.

The Nats have Scherzer, Corbin, Sanchez with a Ross at #4 Not as good without Strasburg but not anemic either. They could have added a middle guy like a kuechle 18M-20M or even a MadBum at a savings of 12M per compared to what they paid Strasburg and still get into the playoffs from the NL East.

I love the Rendon deal. Much better value and Trout/Rendon reminds me of Ramirez/Ortiz. However I'm saying Stras because of our lack of SP.

Position players have more frequent opportunities to impact the game. If we forget team needs and simply say which is better, it's Rendon. 

Obviously this move opens things up for a trade, though the Angels may overpay in that arena too. 

Rendon certainly makes things more interesting than Strasburg.

You are just down on the guy.  When has he overpaid in a trade?  When hasn't he found value in a trade for a pitcher?  You, yourself rave about his ability to find that arm, but since he wasn't able to land Cole or predict that Strasburg would get the highest contract ever for a pitcher or that he couldn't pry Wheeler away from the East Coast where he and his wife wanted to be, you are down on him.  Like I said, he is your type of GM, you are simply disappointed in him.
