You could have done exactly that in the time it took you to reply.

Tommy John should be an honorary member of the Angels Hall of Fame, due to the impact he's had on the franchise.

dr. frank jobe, who performed the TJ surgery, is in the hall.

Three things kept Tommy John from the hall of fame:

1.  Sinkerball pitcher - soft throwing pitchers have a hard time making it.

2. The Chicago White Sox (early 1970's)  - those were some absolutely putrid teams the White Sox fielded.

3. Having Tommy John surgery which robbed him of a year and a half.  ;)

Murphy was as good as any player in MLB from 1982 through 1987.   Five seasons out of six, he had an OPS+ of at least 142, and won two NL MVPs with two other top ten finishes in that 6 year period.

But career numbers wise, he only had 2,111 hits and 398 HRs, and an OPS+ of 121.   For comparison, Vlad had 2,590 hits, 449 HRs, and an OPS+ of 140.

You could say the same thing about Sandy Koufax... he had five extraordinary years (possibly 6) and six mediocre years.

I read this tweet, was it you that posted it?  Maybe it was on FB.

I look at this lifetime WAR list, and it is impossible for me to say that Bobby Grich is not a HOFer.

He is probably the most underrated player of the last 30 years.

Look at how Jeter is barely in front of Grich, and notice how many HOFers Grich is above.

The HOF is definitely imperfect, but when your career is better than that many HOFers, somebody should be noticing.

There are 278 players in the HOF.  Grich is #92 all time WAR, and isn’t in?

I know WAR isn’t the singular measurement but this is pretty crazy that #92 all time WAR is not in the HOF when 278 guys are in.

Grich JAWS is 58.6.

That is ahead of 15 other second basemen already in the HOF.

Offensively his 125 OPS+ is higher than 8 second basemen in the HOF.

There are 4 second basemen in history with 8k plate appearances that had a higher OPS+ (Hornsby, Lajoie, Collins, Morgan).

And there is no conceivable way that his defense doesn’t HELP his case with 4 Gold Gloves.

Even the Hall rating (designed to measure HOF threshold with 100 being the cutoff) Grich’s score is 139.

I mentioned WAR in the last post where he is #92.  But also note he is #61 in career WAR for position players!!

Grich was definitely a full blown playboy.  Gotta wonder if there are some very bitter writers out there who may have introduced their ladies to Bobby G.
