Eppler DID have a bad year....  Thing is, because he did it the way he did, it's limited to last year and there is no carryover other than the black eye on his record.

Ill take that over the great successes Dipoto had in 2012 with Wilson and Pujols.

Eppler did have a horrible year in many aspects.  His free agent signings were a bust (again), his analytical management/coaching vision looked horrible and Arte crushed his vision as soon as Maddon became available.

His saving grace is signing Trout for the rest of his career.  That forgives some of his mistakes.

Wasnt a fan of Ausmus, I did in fact say he was the one guy I didn't want.   But as far as the analytics goes -- Arte being a dullard doesnt mean Eppler is wrong about those.  But his FA missteps sealed the deal.   And yeah, while signing Trout is a huge thing, the one year deals limited the negatives.

I agree regarding analytics.  The Astros and Dodgers are teams that demonstrate analytical management works, but you have to have the talent.  It looked horrible this year because the Angels didn't have the talent.

Yep, were are in agreement there -- and thats where his FA came back to bite him in the ass.   Ill say this much, Epp went up there and took responsibility for it.  I know that doesn't mean much to many but I think it said a lot about him as a person.  Im guessing he feels as though those mistakes undermined his goals and cost Ausmus his job.

But was Arte really going to pass up the chance to get Maddon?  Who knows.

Whoever took this picture, assuming it's from yesterday, will never be allowed near Arte again....or fired..... Probably fired.

I hope it was worth it.

1.  You're ASSUMING it was from the interview.  It's highly possible it's not.

2.  Whoever took the picture didn't necessarily post the picture.

It's likely that someone was looking for their 10 seconds of fame.  They found this picture (who knows where) and posted it claiming it represented THE interview when it likely was from a different time.

Holy crap people....how many hints does @Jeff Fletcher have to give for you guys to get it?

If it was up to Eppler, Brad would not have been fired.  Eppler trained Brad for a year in analytics, he then chose the coaching staff who were all analytics based and he had a goal for this team that would work overtime.  Brad managed this team pretty much exactly how Eppler wanted him to.  The results sucked due to injuries, a death and lack of talent, but in Billy's long term vision, he knew this would take at least a couple years to evolve.  Arte initially bought into the plan, but after the worst season in 20 years, he was pissed and didn't like what he saw.  As soon as it was definite that Maddon was going to be available, Arte lowered the boom on Eppler and his plan.  This is why Eppler looked and acted the way he did at least weeks press conference.

But you and others ADD things to the story based on nothing.

You add things like Arte was “pissed”. . .

Couldn’t he also just have been excited about Maddon and willing to eat Ausmus money to get Maddon?

You add things like Eppler “would not have fired Brad”. . .

Not in a vacuum.  Duh.  The owner would have to approve of eating Ausmus money.  And once Eppler knows Arte is good with it, it is very, very believable that Eppler could prefer Maddon was n the dugout over Ausmus.

Look nobody really knows, but it is undisciplined to only add one conceivable narrative and discount equally conceivable narratives.

Is it invisible to you that 99.99% of people not named Arte Moreno think Maddon managing the Angels next year over Ausmus is a no brainer?  But we are supposed to believe Billy Eppler is the lone man on the planet that adamantly disagrees and was forced to do this against his will?

99.99% of people are kinda stupid, tbh. Present company excluded, obviously.

@VariousCrap is Billy Eppler’s burner account.
