What concerns me more: Last year, most of Eppler’s interviews were with guys without managerial experience. Now we hear after Ausmus is let go that the Angels are looking for someone with a lot of experience. That implies to me that Arte is on the same page as Team Whine Country Club on this site. That means Eppler has very little autonomy to do his job. In case anyone needs a reminder, bad things happen when Arte meddles in things he knows jack about.

Lol wut?

Eppler hand picked Ausmus and groomed him for a year before giving him the manager position.

Arte approved an extra 10 mill or w/e the f*ck it was so Eppler could do an even worse job at building his roster last offseason and signing Cody Allen.

Did you sleep through this entire last year, bub?

Last season Eppler claimed to have casted a wide net to recruit a new manager. He ended up hiring the guy that brings him coffee. I think he better get it right this time or else he’ll be job hunting next season.

Unlike this year where he gave Eppler free reigns to do things his way. We all know how well that went, the worst season in 20 years...

Don’t you have a Tim Horton’s to be hanging out in, eh?

No, I just don’t bother with trolls who can’t see beyond the end of their noses.

Everybody responded to your post that Eppler hasn't done shit to improve the big club since he has been hired.

After 4 years you have to show some results or your job is in danger bottom line.

A GM who gets constantly overruled by the owner loses all liability, IMO. Anyone who can’t see how far of a cliff we had to climb from Jerry burning the organization to the ground to overtaking the best organization in baseball (plus we’re stuck with the A’s in our division also). No team has had as many injuries as we have in that time.

Most fans are too shortsighted to have the faintest clue how big of a hole we had to climb out of and how big of a cliff we have to climb now that we’re out of the pit. I’m as frustrated as anyone with how the Trout years have gone, but I don’t blame Eppler. Could he have done better? Sure, but his errors have been limited, and his failures have been as much bad luck as error based. Arte’s errors? Literally a decade in consequence.

Yes, it sucks that we’ve had four years of losing records, but given what Eppler started with and how badly Arte fucked us in the ass during the Reagins/Dipooto years, you’re damn right I don’t want him putting his incompetent hands anywhere near actual decision making on this team.

What really matters here is that the right decision gets made.  I'm with you on Eppler and the interviews at large that produced Ausmus.  But whether Eppler was pushed or not, a mediocre manager was shown the door and right now the Angels are in the mix for what would be the right guy to build a winner.  Go get Maddon and then sweat the details of how involved Arte is while we watch this team contend.

At this point, things are how they are. I hope we get Maddon, and I hope the only meddling Arte does is expand payroll. I’m nervous about what looks to be going on behind the scenes, though. Past precedent suggests that there is reason to be concerned.

If the team is not in the playoff race until the end of the season next year, then yes.

I would agree. It sounds like If the Halos don’t show some marked improvements in on-field performance, then Eppler will be allowed to leave. Maybe the writers who were talking about Eppler and BOS last week weren’t just pulling it out of their asses.

This all feels somewhat chaotic and icky. Arte must be one PO'd dude right about now. I keep waiting for more bad news to hit the fan.

I don't see anything chaotic about it at all. We just had our worst season in a long, long time and the manager, pitching coach and bench coach got fired. It happens a lot in baseball.

If Arte intervened, it is well within his rights to demand more progress.  Many people are assuming that Arte fired Ausmus but I believe Eppler fired Ausmus.  I also will argue that it was Eppler who went to Arte asking to fire Ausmus.

I can't remember anyone officially being fired by Arte.  He usually lets the person's contract run out.  I think this is Eppler trying to do an expensive Mulligan.

My first narrative!!!

Interesting. Do you think it's necessary for Eppler to go to Arte about firing Ausmus since he himself hired him?

I guess it feels that way because of the Skaggs death in the background. And it seems like (just my own perception) Eppler is scrambling to save his job. Add that Arte only picked up his option instead if extending him. Maybe chaotic is the wrong word. I guess it's more of an uneasy feeling.

I think he probably needed to explain to the person paying Ausmus for the next two years why a change was needed.  I think Eppler may have realized how many mistakes he made. Humility in leadership roles is never a bad thing which is why I believe Arte is not planning to get rid of Eppler.
