Breaking: Tim Mead to be named President of the National Baseball Hall of Fame

Recommended Posts

He will be leaving the Angels after this season, his 40th with the Angels.

Congrats to Tim Mead. The Angels will miss you, but MLB as a whole has gained an amazing person and walking Baseball library/encyclopedia.

Bittersweet for me as Tim has been a great friend and valuable source and help to AngelsWin.com over the years.

Raise your hand if you've ever been to a summer or spring fanfest and witnessed Tim Mead give a State of the Angels address for 30 minutes, followed by a 30 minute Q&A with our group? Some of the best times as a website that I've encountered over the past 15 years. I'm definitely going to miss this.

Thing I liked about him was he was so approachable even after the official stuff.  He'll do well at the HOF.

This is awesome. Congratulations to Tim Mead.  Such a class act and heck of a nice guy.

Not sure what he was thinking when he let me into his office in Tempe, but we all make questionable choices.

hey and on our way out we bumped into Kirk McCaskill remember?

Very bittersweet only because Tim represents the best traits of the Angels Organization, and as far as I know is universally beloved among Angels fans. It's sad to see him go, but I'm happy that the Baseball Hall of Fame has "one of us" at the helm. One of the best people in all of baseball, and absolutely deserved.

The biggest problem with the Hall of Fame is getting inducted has primarily become basically an AWARD to the player personally.

Everything is like, "Does HE deserve. . ." And "They should let HIM in. . ."

I think things would be much easier if the HOF would just operate like a museum and determine who should he displayed in the museum.  Forget completely how the player feels about it.

Think about how the Pete Rose issue is contaminated with people not wanting to allow Rose the satisfaction.  Think about how the Barry Bonds issue is contaminated with people wanting to make sure Bonds isn't personally rewarded for cheating.

My opinion is for the Hall to have true integrity, how Rise or Bonds feels must be irrelevant.

This position is not an argument for Rose and Bonds to be in the HOF.  It is for the Hall to cleanse itself from the complications that come from treating induction as a personal award to the player.

Have fun Tim.  Thanks for your years with the Angels!

This a great win for baseball and a sadness (but not a loss) for the Angels. Tim has been that voice of history and wisdom for the team with all of his years of service, but, he has left an office and staff fully prepared to continue on past him. To me, that is one of several great hallmarks of a great leader.

I hope that while Tim is the president, the Angels can and will add several more players into the HoF wearing the Angels uniform, meaning that we have the players and that he serves long enough to see them inducted!
