Trent Giambrone #Cubs Leads @smokiesbaseball with 16 Homeruns, 22 Stolen bases and second with 19 Doubles. Pulled in the 3rd inning and didn’t appear to be injury related. Ranked as the 30th best prospect http://MLB.Com  prospect list. Hugs reported in the dugout

Soon-to-be-25-year old, low-round draft pick, decent pop, doesn't walk much or hit for average.  Sounds like something you'd get for a middle reliever on an expiring contract.

EDIT: Also, just to be clear, he's ranked as the CUBS' 30th-best prospect--not 30th in all of baseball.

Jesse Rogers Retweeted Jerry Crasnick

And it's not Blake Parker, FYI

Trent Giambrone, the #Cubs prospect who was pulled from his game today and reportedly seen hugging teammates in the dugout, is not the PTBNL in the Cole Hamels trade. And the #Cubs have no second deal in the works with the #Rangers. Just in case anyone was wondering ...

I, for one, would love to try and add Jose Martinez.

Controllable through '22. Not very good defensively, but he'd be a solid long-term improvement over Marte at 1B/COF. He has an option remaining and he'd be nice 1B insurance should Pujols break down.

1st base defense was so bad they tried him in the outfield. He literally lost at bats because his defense was so bad. I don’t think we could have a defensive liability at 1st, it’s too important of a position.

I guess it would sort of hinge on how the Angels view DH next year.

Do they think Ohtani will be there quite a bit due to a surgery? Will Pujols be able to hang at 1B? Would Upton need to start transitioning over there in a year or two?

Jose's .301/.368/.486/.854 with an OPS+ of 128 (over the last two years) would sure help alleviate the Valbuena/Pujols/Marte/Young production of late, but yes, his defense is awful.

Longshot that cannot be dismissed until after deadline passes: #Cubs getting controllable SP. Could build deal around Happ or another young hitter. Obstacles: Scarcity in market. Many teams want elite prospects over MLB pieces. CHC too thin in young pitching to add to deal.

Cubs rotation is way too lefty-heavy for them to be interested in Skaggs or Heaney, and the Angels are too thin on organization RHP SP (or SP in general), but Barria for Happ would be something I'd consider.

Reds getting some hits on Adam Duvall too.

Not terribly interested, but similarly to Jose Martinez, he could fill a need in place of Marte as a COF/CIF right-handed bat.
His offense is inflated some by Cincy's ballpark (though his career OPS is pretty much equal home, .737, as it is away, .776) but he hits lefties well too, with a .796 OPS.
Controllable through 2021, and he's having a poor year, so he could be a buy low.

A package with him and Harvey or Iglesias would fill some '19 needs.

I'd trade Barria for Happ in a heartbeat, don't think the Cubs would

Same - the only thing going in Barria's favor is that he has so much control still.

Angels would have to answer that loss though by trading for a SP, and likely signing one via FA too.

Hearing talks are progressing between #Pirates and #Orioles for Gausman and possibly Givens. Orioles focusing on Infield which could include ke’bryan Hayes and DR SS Oniel Cruz according to industry source. Nothing imminent
