Trout will be second in career WAR among active players fairly soon.  This is the Baseball Reference version before today. He's about the same behind Cabrera on Fangraphs

1. Albert Pujols (19, 39) 100.1 R
2. Miguel Cabrera (17, 36) 69.4 R
3. Robinson Cano (15, 36) 69.0 L
4. Zack Greinke (16, 35) 68.2 R
5. Mike Trout (9, 27) 68.0 R

F'ing Scioscia.

F'n Stoneman for signing Vlad Guerrero.

Jesting aside, Salmon could have stuck around for another year as a part-time DH if he really cared about ending with a nice round 300+ HR. I mean, Shea Hillenbrand would have been his primary competition for DH at bats in 2007. But Tim was really slowed at that point, had missed most of 2004 (in which he stunk) and all of 2005. He held his own in 2006, but was an old 36, if I remember correctly. He voluntarily put himself out to pasture.

His last time playing the field he has ice packs on his shoulder and knees. Physically he was done and he knew it and ended his career respected rather than try and hang on and play one more year for the money.

Trout gave baseball a running head start to begin the season. He's took his walks and waited but now he is killing any good pitches in the zone.

The last 12 games he has 12 RBI and 5 home runs while hitting .341/.518./805/1.323 and he is being pitched around as much as possible. But who is hitting in front of him and behind has improved tremendously since the start of the season.

Ohtani in the same 12 game stretch has 4 home runs, 13 RBI and is hitting .298/.358/.574/.933 behind Trout.

LaStella .369/.391/.532/.923

Fletcher .323/.387/.427/.814

It's the perfect storm to allow Trout to be Trout, something the Angels have struggled to do with a declining Pujols batting behind him and no leadoff hitters to get on base in front. If this keeps up Trout is going to destroy all of the AL competition for MVP.

Career fWAR Through Age 27:

1. Mike Trout 69.4

2. Ty Cobb 68.8

3. Mickey Mantle 67.9

Since my last post about it a week ago, he's passed Harry Heilmann, Jim Thome, Bobby Grich, and Al Simmons on the all-time list and is now tied with Gary Carter at #62-63.

Oh yeah, check out career wRC+:

197 Babe Ruth

188 Ted Williams

173 Lou Gehrig, Rogers Hornsby, Barry Bonds, Mike Trout

170 Mickey Mantle

That's decent company.

Trout could lead the league in runs scored again. He's now tied with Betts and Bogaerts for 1st with 50.

He also started today tied for 9th in RBI, for those that care about that silliness.

Amazing what a lineup around him can do for those numbers.
