  27    Jakob Voss             R/R     6-9    255    04/20/97        RHS     JR

"Voss said he will sign with the Angels, who offered him a $50,000 signing bonus. The Angels will also offer to pay for two years of college tuition should professional baseball not work out for him.

The Angels were also impressed with Voss' size — he's a 6-foot-9 right-hander, clearly the tallest player in the Creighton team picture — and his velocity, which is now up to 90-93 mph. Voss said his fastest pitch was clocked at 96 mph"

Man -- that article is really painting a great picture of how deep the Angels current front office is scouting.  Dude was a total nobody who didn't even log 10 innings this year ....  Was throwing 80 MPH in HS now in the 90s..   Absolute project but there might be something there.

Hell, I would have drafted him just to have him as a future coach. Kid clearly loves the game, has a huge work ethic, and probably taught himself a bunch about pitching the past few years. If he doesn't pan out, I'd pay his way to get a physical therapy degree and let him work with young pitchers.

Of course, the chance you'd get a fireball pitcher would be pretty good, too.

Read the article on Reyes ....   The guy's insurance ran out so he rehabbed himself watching Youtube videos....    Its ridiculous.

Not often, and Matt Shoemaker.

I forgot about that... I really had/have no idea how UDFA's pan out.  I guess they have to build minor league rosters some how.

how much can a team pay a UDFA?

probably no limit is my guess.  makes sense why teams draft a bunch of these guys late in the draft.

They have same restrictions as players in rounds 11-40 - anything over $125K goes to the team's bonus pool, most of them sign for a ticket to an affilliate
