Jaime Barria - MLB call up

No, but he will need to.  After Barria on Wednesday, we need a SP for Th and one for Fri.  That will be Heaney and Tropeano in some order.  Bridwell can’t get called back up yet, barring an injury.

I would guess Barria and a reliever get sent back down Wed to clear for Tropeano and Heaney....but what do you do if Barria is lights out Wed?  Dunno....

Oh right, fair enough. How many innings can he pitch in April and it not influence service time?

It has to do with days on the roster, not innings pitched.  If he is on the MLB Roster for 172 days, then he gets a full year of service.  Most seasons are around 183 days, although it’s probably more around 188 days this year with the extra days off.

There are also clauses about if you are optioned then recalled back within a short time frame (20 days? Or so), then all of those days count as service time, too.

I'm not counting on Shoe or Ramirez.    Might be time to move to the pen for both.

I still hope Shoe can get healthy. I think he's more valuable as a starter, but if he can't stay healthy I think he could be a superb reliever. However, I think he'll leave the team because he wants to start and starters make more money.

Good question. It would almost be a sin to send him back down. It could ruin his confidence, but I don't see what else can be done. We really need relief.

If he is lights out and absolutely shuts down the Rangers, then sure, you keep him up.  But anything short of that, and I think he goes right back down.  I'd like to think he's a stronger person than to have his confidence "ruined" by being opted down.  It is a business decision, not a performance one.

For those of you wondering about Tropeano and Heaney, the Angels also need starters for Thursday and Friday. I would think they are the top two candidates for those two games, in some order.

While it is important, service time should NOT always be a factor.   One extra season is not that critical, if said player makes a difference in current season.

Agreed, and we see this in play with Ohtani.  That said, I do not envision Barria being the kind of difference maker where it makes sense to speed up his timeline.  All that's required is 3 weeks or so in the minors for the season, and we gain an extra year of control.  In most instances, it is totally worth the trade-off.

Where the hell is he going to go? Doesn't he have two more years in control?  Plus he is an injury risk.  In addition he has only a year and half of effective pitching

The Angels can skip one of these three guys coming up this week if they choose to, because none of them will have to pitch again until the same day next week, and they could call up Bridwell to take next Wednesday's spot, as he would've been down for 10 days.

But, assuming they send down Pena and Paredes, whom they called up on Sunday, they don't have another reliever really to call up except Almonte?

Morris can't be called back up until 10 days from Sunday. Pena and then Paredes wouldn't be eligible for ten days since they were sent down.

I suppose they could just send down one of them to call up Barria, then send Barria down to activate Heaney or Tropeano. But that means they are planning on calling up Bridwell to take next Wednesday's start.

But then Barria couldn't come back up until the 21st.

They can alternate Barria and Bridwell, basically every other start but that's not a good look for anyone.
