One thing the dodgers can offer is that torrance/gardena has a huge japanese american community. Not that hed necessarily want to live there, but nearby in say palisades or hermosa, being able to go to some of the businesses there might help.

Then again, we have little saigon, so maybe it evens out.

Something else to keep in mind too, Eppler doesn't chase players he doesn't believe he can sign. He looks for deals and steers clear of bidding wars. 

My guess is he probably got some inside information leaked from Ohtani's LA based representation that Shohei wants to be on a smaller market AL team in the West Coast. It probably took Eppler all of a half a second to figure out, "Hey, that's me!"

 

being that eppler himself has scouted him for years, i can't see how any of that is anything other than an outsider's pipe dream.
