Who wins the AL MVP

According to Fangraphs Judge (8.2) has the higher WAR than Altuve (7.5). Judge also had a higher wRC+ of 173 over Altuve's 160.

So if you are using the same type of Stats to claim Trout should have won more MVPs then you should be arguing Judge should win this year.

Or maybe it's about more than just number data.

Excellent! Another example of WAR being a very imperfect measure of a player's worth!

A boatload of unproductive Ks means nothing to WAR. That's the biggest fault, IMO. It was really magnified in the playoffs (I know, the MVP voting discounts the playoffs) when Judge whiffed in so many big situations...........only to get the rare big hit. 27 Ks and a .188 BA.

Altuve had 25% more hits and 60% fewer Ks in the regular season.

The two likely ROY for both leagues are perfect examples of the "new normal" in baseball. Lots of Ks and lots of HRs and low BA with RISP. They took turns setting the record for most Ks in a post season. All because they refuse to shorten their stroke or hit to the opposite field in a situation where a single is as effective as a HR. Judge hit .227 with two outs and RISP. K rate of 33%. Bellinger comes in at .229 with a 30% K rate, in the reg season. .219 and NEARLY a 50% K rate in the playoffs.

Think back to the playoff games, where all these two needed what a measly single..............and they K-ed, swinging for the fences.

The MVP voting is completed before the playoffs begin. So nothing of what you are addressing has any bearing on the results.

Coulda sworn I said that in my post. Why are you re-stating the obvious?

Besides, I DID address their differences during the regular season. WAR is an imperfect meter.

this is what he was basing it off of. i read it the same way as he did, but i let it go. playoff performance isn't discounted, it's eliminated from consideration entirely, because the voting is finalized before the playoffs begin. obviously, you're aware of this, but you chose the wrong word.
