It indeed is sad.  To see him struggle like this is not fun and I hope he has finally accepted reality and retire.

In no way am I an Angels fan but Weaver was still one of my favorite players in baseball for a lot of years. Dude was fun to watch back in his prime years (2010-2012) but his career is over. Congrats on a tremendous career but he should have hung it up after 2015.

The guy was a fierce competitor but neglected his body. Of course the booze and drugs didn't help much either.

Weaver was an awesome Angel and it sucks to see him this way but it really does seem like his career was pretty short. By the age of 32 he had already looked like he was finished. I'm curious as to why his ability to pitch just disappeared so quickly

Likely means it was a genetic thing and not a case of bad training or anything else..   His arm held on as long as it could then it left the building.

booze and drugs ? i mean i'm sure the guy threw back a drink but since when has there been dirt about drugs on the weave ?

Anyway, I hope and expect that he'll retire as Angel.  Don't blame him at all for trying to hang around in SD.

Best ever college game was against UCLA at Petco Park to christen it in 2004, iirc, a one-hitter with 16 Ks.

I think the current measuring stick for a pitcher's career would be the Angels....if the Angels don't want you, your career is probably finished.
