I want to thank Eppler for attempting to give us old Angels fan a shot of 80's/90's nostalgia and bringing us back to a time when the signing of washed up vets like Tim Belcher or Jack McDowell was a buzz-worthy event for the franchise but enough is enough.  There are actually 24 other guys more talented on the roster still attempting to win baseball games and trotting the zombie corpse of Tim Lincecum every 5th day has got to be tough for them to stomach

Eppler, time to do the right thing...fill Timmy's bowl with something purple and sticky and break the news to him gently that there are currently ball boys snagging fly's between innings that have a better chance of giving us a quality start

There's some historically bad folks on that list. Brings back a lot of ugly memories... thanks Doc!

Just for kicks, I looked up Timmy's run here relative to the entire history of baseball.

So if he were to be let go right now, he'd have a 9.16 era in 38.1ip.

For any player with an equal or greater number  of innings, this would rank as the 19th worst single season stretch in the history of baseball.   Close to 18,000 pitching seasons qualified.

great job of scouting. what are they looking for?

it seems like if you wanted to sign a dude off the scrap heap, then you'd bring him in, face some live batters and see if he can get anybody out. the results couldn't conceivably have been that different.

I'd argue it's even worse than that. Sorting by OPS allowed, it is the second worst season of all time (minimum 35 IP). His 1.136 OPS allowed is topped only by someone called Frank LaCorte, who pitched for Atlanta in 1977. LaCorte's was 20 points worse. By OBP, Lincecum is the fourth worst ever. His .435 BABIP is the highest of all time - and let's not pretend it's bad luck, his BABIP is sky high because teams are smashing him. His 2.37 WHIP is the fifth highest ever and the highest in 39 years.

Worst of all though, his OPS+ allowed coming into today was 205. BR hasn't updated it to the new mark and it obviously got worse today. Nevertheless, that is the worst of all time. No pitcher who tossed at least 35 innings in a season has ever been worse. It is not an exaggeration to say we are witnessing the worst pitching season of all time.
