Really hoping Lamb can show something here at the end of the season, it could be a significant boost to our rotation and/or bullpen options for next season.

He actually hasn't been too bad. He had one disaster of a start, and his peripherals aren't fantastic, but I always give pitchers a little benefit of the doubt when playing the PCL/SLC. Scioscia also mentioned Lamb a few weeks ago as having caught some of their attention.

He's done well in previous seasons. Before he hurt his back and had his other "issues" he was tracking in a really good direction. He is out of options so I'm hoping the Angels at the minimum insert him into their bullpen if they feel he is at the right level of competence.

They can use all the pitching help they can find.

You have no idea AO. I have been building a depth chart for the Primer Series and despite the immense amount of depth (to be clear a LOT of that is back-end and/or up-and-down depth) currently in the system I am still unsure of how they are going to field 5 starters that can go the whole season. I am beginning to think they will have to pull guys in and out of bullpen roles into the rotation or go with a 'bullpen rotation' for some or part of the year or do something funky like a 6-man rotation or short-stint (like 5 innings, 80 pitches max) rotation to get guys like Richards and Heaney across the finish line into October.

We have a lot of uncertainty, variability, and injury risk in our starting five (Richards, Meyer, Heaney, Shoemaker, and Skaggs) in conjunction with the likely fact that Richards and Heaney are unable to throw a full season's worth of starts.

Anybody got a scouting report on Jose Suarez? Those are some gaudy peripherals

only thing I could find was from TBW from a few years ago.

http://www.scout.com/Article/Prospect-Countdown-16-Jose-Suarez-105178161

also listed by him as the best curveball in the org under 'top tools'

http://www.scout.com/Article/Top-Tools-In-The-Los-Angeles-Angels-Farm-System-74980462

he's was 5'10, 170lbs as a 16 yo and is still listed as such.

Apparently, he's 'stocky'.

There are some conflicting reports about his stuff.  Fangraphs and MLB have his changeup as his best pitch while Ward has his curve being a plus pitch with others calling it 'fringy'.

based on the video I saw, maybe a Jason Vargas or Hector Santiago comp from a look/body habitus standpoint.  Supposedly throws a lot of strikes and has a good feel for pitching with solid deception and life.

This despite the previous regime spending three years making drafting pitchers the priority...

Yes... but outside of Newcomb, none of them have amounted to diddly..   Clevinger pre-dated Dipoto.

The Indians walked away with a better return after trading Manhattan to the Dutch.

How many first or second round picks did DiPoto actually make? How many got used on pitchers? Signing FA really hurt us for several years.

His first draft he spent his first pick on a RP.   RJ Alvarez, 3rd round..   His third pick (5th round) was Sappington.   He didn't have a second rounder because of Nibs   Eight of his first ten picks were spent on pitchers.  To date the most accomplished MLB player from that draft is Mike Morin -- a RP taken in the 13th round.

His second draft, his first pick was Hunter Green.   The first 7 picks of that draft were pitchers -- the only one to spend any time in MLB is Middleton, both Greeen and  his third pick that year are already out of baseball.   Ten of the first eleven picks were used on pitchers.  To date the most accomplished players taken from this draft class (at the MLB level), are Middleton, and Busenitz.  Two RPs.

His third draft, the first 5 were spent on pitchers - Newcomb being the headliner and only one with any MLB time.  The first position player taken 6th round, is already out of baseball.  Ellis is in AAA, Rhoades and Jewell are in AA.  Joe Gatto, his second rounder just got promoted to High A.

Of the 19 pitchers taken in the first ten rounds of three drafts you have one SP Nate Smith (who Im a fan of) in AAA while 6 of a potential 15 top five picks in those drafts (one of them a position player), are out of baseball.

1st rounders or not -- that's a pretty putrid showing IMO.

Jahmai's now hitting .362/.411/.569 in 31 games for Inland Empire. Time for another promotion or will the Angels just let him finish the year there?

Either way, I think he's starting next year at AA - at 20 years old. He could get a cup of coffee as early as late next year, in his age 20 season, and be up sometime for good in 2019, his age 21 season.
