Super Bowl Sunday

What are your plans? What are you eating?

Gonna hang at home and invite the family over.

I'm going to bust out the smoker for the first time. I'll probably do a chicken because I'm almost certain to mess up whatever I cook. I've not used a smoker before. I'll bbq some wings with a few different sauces as well.

Nice on the smoker. I've gotta get one of those.

Going to my brother-in-law's place in Hesperia, he just bought a house there. It's the good part of Hesperia. Bringing some Frank's Red Hot buffalo chicken dip and chips.

That would be up by the golf course, no?  My grandparents lived up there for years.  Had a house looking down onto the course.

My dad just celebrated his 58th birthday on Saturday. Before kids, we used to do Vegas every year for the Super Bowl. I hope I get to do that again in a couple of years once my kids are grown and leave for college.

that's about when it'll happen next for ya, big guy.

my friend mickey is coming over, but i'm not inviting anyone else. the last few years have been parties with my brother and a friend or two, and there's so much talking that it's hard to enjoy the game or the commercials. they don't watch football every week so they're constantly asking questions, but then they start joking around and their volume is insanely high, and i get so frustrated that i don't want to watch the game with them any longer. mickey and i have watched the game together for about 15 years, and we both feel the same way, so we're not telling anyone anything about where we're watching.

no, it's not mickey hatcher, just in case anyone is wondering.

we're having egg salad sandwiches, steak fries nachos (use steak fries instead of chips), and these little appetizer hot dogs cooked in bacon, brown sugar, and butter (ours is a vegetarian version, and it's pretty darn good). not sure about dessert yet, but my wife will come up with something amazing.

This sounds good. Do you have a recipe?

Tahoe!

Was thinking about going to the game, but I am neutral to both teams and don't want to deal with that insane traffic.

Would rather do Super Bowl when it's a weekend away from where I live.

So getting out of the city, gonna do Sonoma Friday night and then head up to Tahoe for a few days.

Snowboard in the morning, have some apres ski drinks then watch the game and party at one of the casinos.

My best friend is showing up with his new Audi that he had the chip modified and we are testing it out on an abandoned road in an undisclosed area of the desert.

If we don't die then we are going to hit Morongo casino and lay down opposing team bets so one of us can say we won. I really don't care which I pick. We may have a coin toss as to who gets what team.

Cut the hot dogs into one inch lengths and wrap them with bacon, enough to cover. Secure them with a toothpick so the bacon stays attached. Melt butter and brown sugar together. Arrange bacon-wrapped hot dogs in a 9x12/14 baking dish and cover with the melted brown sugar & butter. Bake at 350 for 60-70 minutes. Serve while warm.

It moved while I was reading this.

Two little kids, so I'll be fortunate to watch any of the game live. May do an oak smoked tri tip. Wife will probably want burgers. I'm gonna need a new bottle of Buffalo Trace...

I plan on spending a very crowded day snowboarding on Sat, and hope to be home in time for kickoff on Sun. Food wise, I plan on grilling a whole tri-tip, and will make small tacos with corn tortillas, pico de gallo and guacamole. It's just going to be the wife and kids, which means that I can watch a good portion of the game without having to talk to non-football-watching friends at a party, or women gossiping about the commercials. Drinks, probably buy a couple good beers, and have a bourbon/rocks later.

Going on a chill bike ride with the lads as is our tradition on the boardwalk. Return to friend's house on bikes with, as we call it, "candies, cokes and things."

We might order a pizza and break for a Balboa bar if the game's in the crapper...and it often is.

There'll probably be only one of us really watching the game. The rest of us will be on our phones/tablets. With the last two minutes of the game (which will take 25 minutes), I will enthusiastically countdown the clock to pre-season baseball happenings!  The end of football season is one of the best days of the year, even in this uneventful Angels off-season.
