It wouldn't shock me if this becomes MLB's first "sign and trade". I remember when the original trade went down reading that the Dodgers felt they were getting one year of Kendrick and a 2016 pick for Heaney. Once they realized they weren't going to get that pick maybe getting a prospect is the best they feel they could do. Dodgers don't need him and there are other teams out there who do, but don't want to give up their pick but might be willing to give up someone the Dodgers want.

Yeah, if a team really wanted to kill a players market this is the route to take. It's like they gave themselves an extended exclusive signing period.

Exactly my thoughts. A lot more teams would have been interested (including possibly us) were it not for the draft pick forfeiture.
