Yikes...price tag for SP just went way up.  Conversely, a trade for Santiago, Shoemaker, healthy Wilson, etc maybe nets a bit more.

Only reason I say that is after he gets paid like this it seems the majority of athletes just fall off a cliff stats wise. Maybe it's just me though. When I heard of this signing I just think of right handed hitters in that park just crushing things over the green monster. Baseball contracts are just becoming absurd. Trout or Harper are going to get paid what $500 million when they hit free agency?

The opt out after year 3 helps things a bit, assuming Price continues to dominate during that span. Price of pitching in the FA market has been ridiculous for years now. Never expected the Angels to be serious players for these premium arms considering the cost

 

Can still target a 2nd/3rd tier SP, though. This is why I was loving what Dipoto was doing with the pitching the past few years. Trading for high upside arms like Heaney/Skaggs and getting other cheap, lesser known arms like Tropeano/Santiago.

 

 

Mets are in great shape going forward considering they have an entire rotation full of young, cost-controlled arms
