Scioscia is Foolish for Platooning Calhoun and Cowgill

As I said, at this point in the season, the platoon wasn't hurting anyone. If it was September and we were chasing a playoff spot and Cowgill wasn't on fire, then yes, I would be against the platoon. But we weren't there yet so that is why I didn't mind it.

You seriously don't think 4th outfielders get a quality amount of at bats throughout the year?

 

What is this desperation to get him playing time? There is none. 

When someone gets injured, or needs a day off, Cowgill is the first guy to play.

What is there to criticize? Calhoun has had success against Happ, Scioscia put him in the lineup. Sounds like genius on his part or he was just paying attention to the stats that Francona provides him every day before he posts his lineup cards. You seem to think his decision making happens in a vacuum, that he uses nothing more than a pencil and lineup card and makes decisions haphazardly.

 

Haven't you noticed the Angels have been employing more defensive shifts this season than ever before? Do you think that is Scioscia just going by a hunch? Or are there people the Angels hired this season, like Francona, that has been pouring through hit charts and matchups and provides those stats to the rest of the coaching staff to try positioning for the best defense? Which do you think is the cause for such a change in Scioscia's normal tinkering?

 

You want to stomp your feet and ride Scioscia's ass about lineup cards and in the end, you're wrong. Because in all of your complaining you never once put a second into thinking that the lineup card is a collaborative with people hired to help make it the best opportunity to win that singular game. And because scoreboard says you're wrong. This is the most success the Angels have had in years and it looks like it is because they are better prepared than ever.

 

So instead of trying to say I never complain about Scioscia, how about you think before you flap your gums. I never complain about Scioscia making a decision I don't have the information at hand to make a better one with. And selective line stats from BBRef is not definitive information not matter how many days you cherry pick.

Hell I even said I don't care if there is a platoon or not. I just said it was stupid to complain about because we are winning, Calhoun is playing well and Cowgill is playing well. Thanks, LOL. I actually have not been posting a lot of criticism this year. Yes, I have had the reputation of being critical - and not without reason. However, I will say this. I have always tried to be fair, and have always given positive comments and praise when I feel it was warranted. Anyway, the only thing that is important is that the Angels are winning and playing more along the lines of what they should be playing. This makes for good times.

Currently cowgill is 3rd in war, with calhoun 4th among al rf's. (Obviously koles missed time hurts him). But im suprised to see cowgill so high, and having both back to back so high up is pretty cool.

Cowgill (IMO) is so far one of dipos best moves by far. It wont be pimped by the media, but a very good under the radar acquisition

LOL Scout, you pretty much have me figured out. You strike me (pun, no?) as a person who can gleen a lot about a person from what they write.

Actually, when I grew up, the adults in our neighborhood always watched out for all the kids, and we were expected to respect and obey all the adults. If you were caught doing things you were not supposed to, it was not unusual for grown-ups to give a kid the business. If that happened, dear old mom or dad would complete the business. That was just the way of things. I get the impression you were from that era as well.
